Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

I had some bananas here, yesterday, but the gal who did my dishes absconded with them. I took a bite of one when I first got them and it was bitter, so I told her, and hoped she could sweeten them up!

My brain needs a “Reset” button. I can’t seem to get myself in gear, for some reason.

Hopefully, it will happen soon!

found out that I was supposed to have presented them to the pharmacy myself.

I HATE it when that happens. Is this the 21st century or what?

Yeah, well, last time they sprung me, they submitted the prescriptions automatically, but since they didn’t tell me I had to do it myself this time, I had no clue.

The only one I don’t like is the one for my kidney infection. Which reminds me — the pharmacy is still supposed to deliver two more prescriptions, the sandbaggers.

I slept so badly last night that I tried to take a nap today, but the doorbell rang, so I didn’t get a chance. I want to go to bed early but a gal is coming by to pick up my laundry, so no dropping early!

No rest for the weary, I guess....

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!

We got about 1/2” of snow last night. It was not in the foreguess. It should all melt off shortly as we have above freezing temps all day with rain. Mrs. ArGee said she’d never heard of leaving snow down in before a freezing rain so you’d have better traction. Having walked on bare ground that’s been hit with freezing rain AND on snow that’s been hit with freezing rain, I’d have to say the snow version is better.

Today’s Wordle should not have been so hard.

Good Morning!

No sun for us today, but looking better for the next few days... it would seem that the freezing rain over snow would offer more traction than on the bare roadway surfaces...

I may be breaking out of the Wordle slump...

I think I remember reading somewhere that there’s nothing worse waiting for a battle to begin that you know you can’t avoid.

That may be true of storms as well, once you’ve done all your storm prep of course.

I don’t plan to prepare, except by shutting the one window that’s open.

Some days, I think the whole world looks better upside down!

Good morning. I hope you had a good night. Mine was another so-so night again. but I’ll get up from here in a few minutes and get ready to shower. I tried to find someone to come and sit in the living room while I was showering, but got no takers, and I really want to be clean. So I’ll go in and be vewwy, vewwy caweful.

One of the gals from church is going to take my laundry after she gets off work, so that is something. I don’t want any more food until I’ve managed to eat up the stuff in the freezer, but that could take a while.

We’ve had some gorgeous days lately, and I’m grateful for each one of them. It will be 70° again today, and that’s nice. It won’t be long before I have to uncover the A/Cs. But not before I turn on the ceiling fans!

Not bad, although I was startled when my alarm went off. I’ve been writing flash cards for Soil for Kathleen’s team, and my right thumb hurts.

I hate when that happens!

It seems like a bazillion years since I've done anything like that for my own kids. Wow.

I need to get a haircut, but I’ll have to see what’s left after all the bills are paid. I feel like a sheep that needs to be shorn! My hair needs to be much shorter in order to give the right curl at the right length so I don’t have to mess with it. It’s almost shoulder-length, now, and that’s dragging the curl right out of it.

The PT guy, David, threw some curve balls in my way today, but it’s to strengthen my arms, rather than my legs, so I’m good! I just have to get busy, because there is such a lot of stuff to do.

I was able to shower with no one to babysit, and though I was nervous at first, I just did things slowly and got through it just fine. It takes about 10 minutes longer than normal, but I can make it work and might even be able to go to church Sunday. That would be so cool!
