Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

I always find it funny that they have to staff the “self” checkout lanes…. I guess that there is just too much theft….

Yes, also someone has to verify age for alcohol and some medications.

I’ve heard that they’re not too careful about reviewing the tapes when they think there’s been a 5-fingered discount. People who actually have receipts get stopped sometimes.

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!

We were at -1 fs when I walked the princess this morning. I’m ready for that warming trend.

I had to go over and pick M-I-L off the floor last night. The caregiver was trying to pivot her from the commode to the wheelchair and M-I-L wasn’t helping. So she got in a position where she couldn’t do anything but put her gently on the floor. As strong as M-I-L has become over the last few days, she’s still failing.

I had a pretty good Wordle outing today. That second guess was a good one.

I stopped into Wal-Mart last night. There were 2 people staffing the self checkouts at one door and they were servicing 2 of the machines. There were several shut down so there were only 3 open. I waited about 2 seconds and walked to the other end of the store where there were lots of machines open. When I checked out and walked back the line at the first door was very long. I guess people really an be sheep who just do what they’re used to doing.

I’m not sure why those 2 machines had to be serviced right then. I’m not sure why one of the 2 people wasn’t watching the other machines. I mean, they were dealing with the cash and nobody was just generally watching what was going on? That seemed risky to me.

But I had my items and my cash so it wasn’t my problem.

Good morning. 20sF here, might snow a little more. Currently, it’s basically nothing, but I suppose the roads are slippery.

Kathleen has a dentist appointment at noon. They’ll text if their staff can’t get to the office.

Yes, I was surprised at the Walmart when I was buying windshield washer fluid... and the machine told me I needed an employee to verify my age! (I guess there is some quantity of alcohol in it...)

You can probably use it to make crystal meth or something.

Yes, I always figured those lanes are under constant video and operator surveillance... and it is funny, because of that, I often wave my arms around a lot and keep them away from my body... if I skip bagging something like a gallon of milk and put it in the cart after scanning and it sqwaks at me... I will raise it high out of the cart and dramatically place it on the bag rack on describe what I am doing... it must crack up the operator if any is actually watching at the moment... 😂

Good Morning!

Sounds like that waxing and waning that we discussed earlier, ArGee... I recall how noticeable the changes (waxing and waning) were with my F-I-L over those last months...

We seemed to have survived our lowest temps overnight for the season... hopefully we won’t see 14° F anymore this year...

Taking awhile to get the hang of the clues provided by my new starter... (perhaps more coffee would have helped as well...)

My starter word is vowel heavy. The worst starts are when I get one vowel right, whether it’s in the right place or not.

Yes, I am still unsure if this very vowel laden starter is going to work well....

I wanted to use democrat, but too many letters.

So I thought of idiot. But it’s got a repeat letter.

Maybe crazy? But z isn’t a very often used letter.

Loser? Loser might work. 2 vowels, and at least 2 common letters.
