Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Thanks, I knew (hoped) that it would come eventually.... now the process starts over... and I will probably have a week of doubt as to the usefulness of my new starter...

Good Morning!

Waiting for the rains to come and the temps to start falling... hoping that we’ve done everything that needs to be done...

First try with the new starter worked pretty well... going with a vowel-laden approach this time...

I interviewed for a job in Eden Prarie MN, which isn’t real far north MN.

They told me there were only 2 seasons, winter and road construction.

I was gonna take the job but they changed their minds.

I would too… heck I hate some weeks of winter here in central Texas as well…. It is nowhere as cold as what you get, but none of infrastructure is setup for it…. It wastes a huge amount of my time and energy getting the livestock and plumbing through it….

Always a breath of fresh air to see innocence in the world.

Need that reminder often.

Ready. It’s already come up as the Wordle... but I’m also using it as a Daily Affirmation... I’m guessing that they reset the list periodically... so it may come around again.

“Hey DC, are you ready for today?”

Ready.

Good morning. Happy Humph Day!

The snow crew worked very hard to remove most of the built-up ice and snow from our parking area. They didn’t get Mrs. ArGee’s space completely cleared so her car is tilted decidedly to the left.

We have more very cold days before a warming trend starts this weekend. Then we’ll get temps in the upper 30s and lower 40s if the guesses are correct. I’ll be looking forward to it.

M-I-L is back to eating solid food. From nearly dead to almost back to normal. It’s been interesting to see, although she’s still not bearing any weight. I don’t know how long this improvement trend will last.

Tough Wordle for me this morning.

Good Midweek Morning!

Overnight low got down 5° degrees lower than foreguessed to 18° F... hoping that the same pattern doesn’t hold true for tonight’s foreguess of 17°...

Good morning. Cold here. I got to the library and Walmart. Walmart was seriously understaffed, didn’t even have enough people to watch the self-checkout stands.

Up here they shut down the self-checkout stands they can’t watch, but they don’t ever shut them all down.

I’ll take my 8, TYVM.

I did some training in Minneapolis/St. Paul one time that spanned a weekend. Because my family was out of town anyway I decided to save my company some money and stay through the weekend. The temp hit -6 that Saturday. I did brave the cold and venture to the Mall of the Americas, but I should have stayed in.

-6 is as cold as I need to experience, I think.
