Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Serge hated the winter months when he left for work before the sun rose, got back after the sun set, and didn’t get out of his office many days to verify it had, indeed, been out that day. This was looking like one of those days.

Just before he went out the door, his wife asked him if he could run something out to the trash bin, which was dutifully waiting at the curb for the collection truck to come by. Serge agreed, took the trash in hand, and went out to the car.

He drove to the spot beside the bin and got out to toss in the trash. Immediately, as he opened the lid, tentacles sprang out and wrapped around his arm, pulling him in. “Hey!” he shouted, but another tentacle wrapped around his head, cutting off any other sound and his flow of oxygen.

He was quickly pulled inside. The bin changed shape into a toadlike creature that licked its lips, then ran to the side of the house where it grabbed the real trash bin and carefully positioned it where the creature had been standing just moments before. Then it raced off into the darkness.

30 minutes later, Serge’s wife spotted the car running by the curb, blocking the trash truck from being able to access their bin.

To be continued by whoever wants to take up the next bit...

They ALL have access to my medical records, and in this particular case, I DID tell them of my history of bleeding ulcers. Obviously, to no avail. I suffer because of their godship.

Good Monday Morning!

Back home... back with my ping list (brief as it is), and back on a computer keyboard that I can type on!

Took a late flight so I could help my son more before leaving yesterday, it actually landed 15 minutes early, but we still didn’t get back home until around 1:30AM... so a bit of a late start here...

Also back to Wordle Par...

Its a great place to live. The hospital staff was as caring and tender as they could possibly be. I have no complaints!

The food was like a gourmet kitchen and I ate enough to add 10 pounds to my frame. (Or maybe the three pints of blood helped....)

But yes, I am being well cared for.

LOL!

I’ve got about two dozen of those things stored away, with who-knows-what on them!

Thanks for the laugh!

In the “old people know things” department, my F-I-L used to keep all of his records on floppy. So when he bought a new computer he bought an internal floppy drive for it. It seemed nobody was including them any more, even as an option.

Anyway, he paid some kid some money to install the thing for him. The kid said it wouldn’t work and that F-I-L needed a new motherboard - on a brand new computer.

We were planning to visit soon so I told him to ignore what the kid said and wait. I promised to get his floppy working.

Most technologies are now designed to identify themselves to the computer’s BIOS on startup but the floppy was never modified for that. So you actually have to go into your computer’s setup screen and tell it you’ve installed a floppy drive and whether it’s drive A or drive B. So I did that and his floppy worked.

(Shades of the old hardware organization in that your hard drive is always Drive C, even though nobody uses drives A and B any more.)

From then on he never called anyone for tech support but me.

Yeah, I get it. I have to take mine somewhere to get all the files transferred either to thumb drives or CD-ROMs. Otherwise, the info, including journal entries are wasted.

I just have no clue where to take them in this small town (25,000). But I need to do that. Maybe Steamroller Copies has that service? I’ll call them to find out, then get it done. I just can’t bear to lose the data.

Thanks for the info, though. It did jog something in my head, at least!

Maybe drop a few $$ on something like this.

https://www.amazon.com/External-Portable-Diskette-Notebook-Computer/dp/B0CP66TSZP/ref=asc_df_B0CP66TSZP?mcid=d60b3883715a33c9bbb4d60e48b34e65&hvocijid=18076904164004181140-B0CP66TSZP-&hvexpln=73&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=721245378154&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=18076904164004181140&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9004989&hvtargid=pla-2281435179538&th=1

Then you can keep your old floppies or transfer them or whatever.

WOW!

OK! I think that’s what I need, but I’ll pick your brain in the morning when I’m fresh, rather than now when the brainy parts are sluggish! It’s in my cart, so I won’t lose it between now and then!

Thanks!

PS: I have a 3-T slave that still has plenty of room on it so it should hold everything I can file.

Hopefully the clean-out will go well. I’ve heard some stories about that taking a long time. Mrs. ArGee actually went through our stuff a while back to get rid of things so children wouldn’t have to later.
