No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
I believe in sending sons to deal with trash cans.
Yes, always sad. Focusing on happy times and funny mom stories is said to help. But I can hardly imagine doing that right now, but when ready you’ll fondly remember the good things, and that will bring some comfort.
Know that you are in all our thoughts.
Right now, I don’t want to think about any stories, because I need to be fully functional for choir and then getting organized for the trip tomorrow.
Yes.
Welp, my laundry came back right around 1000, all clean and folded so all I had to do was put it away.
When the gal, Tracy, took it yesterday, she traded me a tray full of six homemade meals, two of which were homemade chicken soup with homemade noodles! Nice and fat ones!
I was still trying to eat the chicken and mashed potatoes that Linda brought over on Friday evening, and that dish alone has given me five smaller meals. She said she would bring me over a rib and some scalloped potatoes today, so I will not be hunngry for a while!
When Annette came yesterday, she brought me two “cup’o’soup” meals, one beef, one chicken. I still have the Hungry Man turkey dinner and two breakfast sausage sandwiches, which I really like! So I’ll get through this week with flying colors!
I’ve spent most of the day walking without the walker and it has done me a world of good. So maybe, since I don’t have to get up to wash clothes tomorrow, I can wash dishes and return those that are not disposable.
It seems as though things are going really well. I’m glad you don’t have to go do laundry at Zero a.m.
I’m finishing up on some things for Envirothon, and then I’ll have to pack. I thought I was going to have to issue a 1099 to the young man who is teaching public speaking, but it turns out it’s only if you pay a person over $600 during the year, and we didn’t.
Thank you! I’m just glad to be home. I need to walk much more, though, and try to get my kidneys working so my feet and ankles aren’t so fat. A week without support stockings was not a good thing for me.
Some things fall into place just as they should, so I’m glad you don’t have to do any unnecessary paperwork.
Please be safe while you’re on the road. We want you back for purely selfish reasons — we like you. A little. In spots about the size of a tent.
I’ll be fine. I’m an excellent driver.
I understand. I’ve been with you as you’ve driven a van-load of unruly kids, so I’m not concerned with YOUR driving. I worry about the Other Guy, so please watch out for him!
Dinner is done and I’m off to bed. Have a good night and please let me know when you’re on your way.
Have a good night. I’m hoping to pick Sally up at 6:30 EST, so I want text you that early.
Happy Monday, kitteh fans. I'm going on a trip for a few days and will not be able to post pictures. Please use the ping list (found on my profile page) wisely and thematically!
Be Safe.
Your Mom is going to love Heaven !!!
Thank you.
So sorry about your mother. We lost Mom in April at age 99. Like your mother, “she was ready to go”. She kept saying that she wondered if “God forgot her”.
Maybe the two of them will run into each other in Glory.
It’s good to have you back and healthy.
Good morning. Happy Monday!
We got 3” of snow last night so I was over at M-I-L’s at 4 shoveling. Then I got Mrs. ArGee’s car cleared of snow and started my day. Is it time for bed yet?
I managed to get a 2 on yesterday’s Wordle. But with the same starting pattern today - not so much.

I’m sorry for your loss, T-C.
Thank you, ArGee. It was a long week, and one I’d rather not repeat any time soon, thanks, and I’m not quite out of the woods, yet, but I’m getting there quickly.
Life throws us curves, but it’s like I said: There is always opposition in all things. We just have to learn they are nothing but challenges. So I’ll be fine. Stepping stones, not stumbling blocks!
I might suggest that having medical personnel who would notice that blood thinners and bleeding ulcers don’t miss might help a bit. But that’s just me.
