Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

I’m ba-a-a-ack!!!

It was a long time building up to the “event” but when it hit, it took me down for the count. I had been put on an anticoagulant in July, but with my history of bleeding ulcers, that was the worst thing to do.

I kept getting weaker over the months, until the last two weeks when it just began to go downhill fast. Last Friday night, I was losing blood all night, and by morning I was too weak to walk.

I sent a text to two people, asking for help, and one, my neighbor Linda, was first to show up. She called 911 and the EMTs wanted to give me a $4000.00 ride into St George, but I declined the kind offer, hot-looking as they all were.

The second person to show up actually works at the hospital as the Head Chef, but she is also in my church. She and her parents were going into Vegas to see family and took me to the ER at St G and dropped me off.

I was given three pints of blood, antibiotics, something to make my blood behave, and I slept a lot the first two days. My coloring is much better, and I’m ready to go to work and get my strength back.

Everything is in place for laundry, meals, housecleaning, errands, and everything else I need, including physical therapy. Now all I have to do is get back to my old schedule and I should ne right as rain in no time!

It’s good to be back among the living! (I felt like Bilbo, kinda like butter spread on too much bread, all thin and stretched!)

Good Morning ‘Face!

It is so good to see that you are home and back among us!

I had no idea that any of that was going on!

Thankfully you were able to get treatment and have things under control….

I never mastered typing on a phone, so I look forward to interacting more when I get back home on Monday!

Thank God that you are alright! 🙏🏼

Yes, it was too close a call! I still get breathless after the least effort, but that will ease in time.

Thanks! I’m feeling much better and my legs at least will carry me from Point A to Point B without buckling at the knee.

What a beautifully scruffy kitty that is this morning! Thank you!

Good morning. I managed seven hours of sleep, but it should improve tonight. I couldn’t seem to shut out the events of the last week, though I know they’ll dissipate in time.

I have to order some essential things from Walmart, this morning, and Linda can bring them in.

My feet aren’t so swollen this morning, so that’s good. The compression socks are back on!

Nothing else much is planned for today except what I can do in the kitchen, and from the sofa, so it will be an easy day. I’ll just gain strength as the days go on, and for now, I take things as slowly as possible without becoming frustrated!

I’m better! That counts!

...I had no idea that any of that was going on!...

Truth be known, ZZ, I had no idea any of that was going on, either! I just kept getting weaker and weaker and nothing was getting any better. Friday night scared me, and I think I was on the edge of shock.

But help came to the rescue and although I'm not perfect, I'm much better and don't ever plan to get this way again!

Thank you for the good wishes!

I’m glad you’re doing better and especially that you’re home again. I hope you continue to recover steadily from all that ails you!

My mother died last night after a decline of some months and a short, acute illness over the last two weeks. She was 86 and ready to go.

As a tax accountant and financial planner, her affairs are spectacularly in order. My brother and her medical proxy, Denise, are in The Villages now, and Sally and I are driving down tomorrow to help my brother square things away.

Good morning!

Great kitty feet! I slept solidly when I finally fell asleep, but I was only able to sleep six hours. It was 0315 when I woke up and two hours later, here I am.

Today, if I can arrange it, I’ll take a shower. I want someone to come in and just sit, “just in case.” I’m not quite steady enough to trust myself doing that on my own, even with that little folding chair. The one I got in Cabot after I hurt my back. It’s perfect for the job, and dries quickly.

Outside of that, I have nothing else planned. Of course, it may be that the shower will have to wait another day, but I live alone, so....

Rob’t is in the hospital. He had a stress test on Friday and failed it, and they wanted to do an angio, but his BP was far too high. So they gave him the same magic potion I got, and it brought his BP down far enough that they were able to do the procedure and find the “widow-maker.” They gave him a stent and he seems to be doing well.

I’m sure I’ll hear more on it today. He might be a jerk but he’s God’s jerk, so He can handle the heavy stuff!

It’s a miracle, what they can do with an angioplasty and a stent. I hope Rob’t makes a full recovery.
