Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good morning. Kittehs can handle the small lizards easily, but the really big ones will be a challenge.

They do that, even in Stealth Mode.

Good morning. Did you sleep well?

Wow. Another Friday, already! I woke up in the middle of the night with my knees aching, probably from one or more of the Itis Brothers. I was able to straighten my legs out slowly, and went back to sleep, but then woke up because my left hip was hurting. I’d slept on it too long. *sheesh* Moan and groan! And the voice of that tiny little Hispanic lady in Del Rio keeps ringing in my ears at these times — “Don’t get old, Mija!” I now see what she meant. All my padding is gone from where I need it most!

I have an errand to run today, but I’ll get that done this morning and have the rest of the day to myself.

Maybe I’ll call my Real Brother and let him know my voice is back somewhat. They will be pleased to hear from me, because S-i-L has been in and out of the hospital since I saw them in August, according to Facebook.

Good morning. Happy Friday!

Sorry for the late arrival. M-I-L managed to roll out of bed this morning and I had to go help get her up off the floor. Apparently her bedrail was either not up or not latched properly so she didn’t trigger the motion alarm we have that will catch her trying to sit up. No injuries (as far as we can tell).

This caregiver panics. She talked about the hospital. With M-I-L in Hospice care, we don’t go to the hospital. Hopefully she doesn’t ever call 9-1-1 without checking in with us.

Great start on the Wordle today whicih means a great result.

Good Friday Morning!

Ugh, the story about M-I-L rolling out of bed, the bedrails, the caregivers, etc. bring back (not so good) memories....

At least you had a great Wordle outing, not so much on this end...

With M-I-L in Hospice care, we don’t go to the hospital.

When mom falls and injures herself we call the hospice care provider, and while they're providing any needed coaching, we do any needed first aid, they take care of the ambulance, and getting her checked it to the hospital.

She can't have two different organizations taking care of her, so the responsibility is signed over to the hospital, and back to Circle of Life when she's released.

See if your hospice care has a similar system.

This reminds me of a comedy clip I heard where the comedian was saying, “I don’t worry about North Korea. I don’t know why they keep trying to get me to worry about North Korea. I worry about Germany. Back in the 1930s Germany started a war and who did they go to war with? THE WORLD! Then after they got beat they started another war. Who was that with. THE WORLD”

“Don’t get old, Mija!” I turned 40 on the same day as my Pastor at that time turned 55. He said, "I have good news and bad news. Good news:They say everything is downhill after 40. They're right. Bad news:Everything hurts more."

We have actually been informed to call the Palliative Care emergency number. They’ll decide if hospitalization is needed. Essentially, if we can keep her comfortable and pain free at home, that’s what we do.

ABSOLUTELY! Hospitals are to be avoided, that's where all the sick people are!

Avoided whenever possible. We couldn't stitch her scalp at home...

The general rule is anything but the reason a patient is in hospice can (and should, IMHO) be treated.

Yes, that’s how it was explained to us…. if a condition arose (e.g., fall and sprain something) that could be treated with a good chance of success, then the hospital should deal with it….. otherwise, under hospice care and direction….

Little bit of frost on the glass getting out of the driveway today. We’ll get into the 70s, very likely. Clear. Blue. No clouds means the daytime warmth sets along with the sun.

I’m ready for a 3-day weekend.

Haven’t tackled a Wordle in awhile, but I’m pleased with today’s result.

Welp, I called my Real Brother and they were overjoyed that they could actually have a conversation with me, even if they were driving somewhere. The conversation ended rather abruptly when they got to their destination, but it was still good to hear from them.

The errand has been completed and I even got my Friday letter to Charlie done before Saturday, this week!

The new prescriptions will be delivered today, as well.
