Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

And I wasn’t even meaning to. But I guess I’ll take the first millennial one.

We didn’t go to baby storytime, either, but we would often hang around in the library, and I would read while the children played with other children.

I have the trash ready to go out, but I was waiting for the day to become a little warmer. It has, but not by much. So I’ll bundle up like Nanook of the North and trudge against the wind, making sure the trash bags are anchored to the little carry-all.

Otherwise, the wind may try to scatter them. Been there. Done that. I don’t like it.

And of course, my stomach is queasy again. There has been a lot of that since Christmas, and I can’t quite figure out why. So I’ll just eat toast again for “lunch” when I get back.

I found a recipe for “White Chocolate Raspberry Bundt Cake,” and I really think I need to try and make it! I’ve never heard of white chocolate pudding mix, but if Walmart has them, I’ll slowly gather the ingredients and plan to make the cake in a few weeks. Normally, I’m not impressed by recipes that use cake mix, but this recipe sounds intriguing enough that I want to!

Nothing Bundt Cakes makes a white chocolate raspberry. It’s good!

This recipe is a copy-cat recipe for that particular brand! In fact, there is an entire cookbook on recipes that people have gotten elsewhere. Including the Nothing Chocolate Bundt Cake which is also in this flyer. (The cookbook is “Most Requested Copy-Cat Dishes.)

But since I love raspberries and chocolate Bundt cakes, the White Chocolate recipe struck me as the one I want. But if I got all the ingredients for it, it would push my grocery bill up over $100 so I’ll just get a few items at a time.

I’ll be glad to send you the recipe if you want. Or not.

One thing is sure — I’m looking forward to making it. The photo looks yummy!

W000t!

I figured you'd snag it if I waited a few minutes. I know you've been watching it. Good job, you!

I’m sure it’s better if we don’t make it!

Yeah, I get it. I’ll have one slice and end up giving the rest away, but I have to try it!

The wind is blowing constantly, and it’s threatening to rain, but tomorrow, the wind is supposed to die down and the day will be overcast, then more wind on Thursday. I don’t want to go anywhere, but I have the appointment with ENT then and have to go.

Tomorrow is my pain clinic appointment. Unngh.

Unnngh. It’s just cold here. Cold by our standards, not by Upnorth standards.

It’s much colder in “The South” than it is here, even though I’m not happy with the temps as they are. Even Vegas isn’t much warmer — maybe only 10 degrees.

I’ll just bundle up, but I hate the cold.

I need to get Chip’s food ready and then head down the hall myself. He left me a big floofy gob of his fur when he was done sleeping in my chair last night. I’d rather have that than spew.... ;o]

Good morning. Happy Humph Day!

It’s still cold here. The foreguess is for a warmer weekend. We’ll see if that changes.

The enrollment into hospice is this morning. Hopefully there are no surprises.

I really had a shot at a 3 on Wordle today. As our friend Max would have said, “Missed it by THAT much.”

Good morning.

I hope you had a good night.

The wind is still blowing at 18 mph, and it’s 26°, so winter isn’t even thinking about being over with yet. It will only be 10 degrees warmer when I leave for the pain clinic. I love my thermals!

I don’t know why, but since the first of January, I’ve been getting spam calls from all over. I’m going to have to change my number because this one is supposed to be on the do-not-call registry. I’ll get it figured out. The calls come late at night as well as early in the morning. *sheesh*
