My cats prefer BBQ'd Haitians but plain old pan-fried in butter is fine.

If an animal is raised as a pet, Haitians will not eat it because, at this point, the animal is seen as part of the family...Most Haitians do not have a human-like relationship with their pets.

There is some wiggle room in there...and it says nothing about respecting other people's pets.

While most Haitians do not eat cats, and it is not a traditional or culturally typical part of Haitian cuisine, some isolated cases have occurred, generally due to extreme poverty or food scarcity. Just a few months ago there was a lot of news about a local gang leader affectionately named "Barbeque" because he would grill his enemies over a fire and eat them. The stories never covered the point of whether he used Heinz, Bulls Eye, or a homemade sauce.
