Actually the point I was trying to make is are they possibly infected with some virus that could be passed on to humans. If not, why issue directives for folks to stay inside and keep house closed up.

Because even perfectly healthy monkeys can be very dangerous. Unless a monkey has been habituated to you over time, handling it or finding it in your house could lead to serious injury - especially research monkeys who are used to a very set routine and familiar faces, and find themselves lost out in the world.

Anyone who sees a monkey in the ‘wild’ in the U.S. should stay away from it.

They’re not anything like a stray dog or cat that you might find.
