Counting Down my iTunes Play Count (VANITY) -- Day #46
AC’s iTunes Directory | 11/5/2024 | Alberta's Child

Posted on 11/05/2024 8:39:01 AM PST by Alberta's Child

Day #46 of the Top 50 songs on my iTunes playlist -- ranked in reverse order by play frequency from #50 to #1 and presented here on a series of FR threads. I've been posting them here on a new thread that compiles the growing list one day at a time over the last couple of months. We are coming down the home stretch here, folks -- and we will be done by early next week, God willing!

And to show my gratitude to the FR management for giving us all a forum to post vanity threads like this, I'll be making contributions for both the 3rd and 4th quarter fundraisers. I would encourage everyone on these threads to do the same! :-)

Have fun with this, folks!

Is there a “show me the whole list” option.

This is too slow.

Pinging to those from the previous threads. This one needs no introduction: a classic, upbeat song from one of the definitive American bands of my lifetime. The Allman Brothers Band joins Bob Seger as the only two bands to show up twice on this list up to this point.

"Blue Sky" was one of the last Allman Brothers recordings with guitar tracks recorded by Duane Allman before his untimely death in 1971. He plays the guitar solo for the segment of this clip from 1:07 to about 2:30 before Dickey Betts joins with his own track.

"Don't fly, mister blue bird -- I'm just walking down the road. Early morning sunshine tells me all I need to know."

Let me know if you'd like to be added or removed from the ping list!

After we get to #1, I will take the time to go back and post the full list with hyperlinks to all 51 songs. I don’t have the time to catch up on all of them right now!

Ok, I have been watching and waiting. You do have some great artists and tunes in your list, but I cant believe some of the greats you have not yet shown. There better be some ELO, Chicago, Styx, Foreigner, Bryan Adams, or maybe even Alan Parsons Project in the top six. Any of those is better than Springsteen. :)

Remember -- these aren't necessarily the BEST 50 songs in my opinion. They're just the ones that have been played most frequently over the years.

A little ways into the list I posted a comment where I thought I noticed a pattern in these. Songs played the most tend to fall into three categories:

1. I have had them on my iPod for a very long time.

2. They show up on multiple preset playlists of mine.

3. Short songs are more likely to be higher on the list simply because my iPod doesn't add a "play" to the play counter unless a song is played in its entirety -- and I'm more likely to cut off a longer song before the end (especially when I am playing it on the road and I reach my destination).

I was at the concert that is the "Official Video" for this song. At the University of Florida Bandshell. I was right in front of Dicky Betts (the dude with the cowboy hat) and maybe 8-10 people back from the stage.

This is a good tune. Duane and Dickey. Written by Dickey Betts. Dickey on vocals

We were sitting around the table after Thanksgiving dinner my nephew at the music control. I requested this after it started, all the kids/young adults came back in from the basement, upstairs, front yard to listen

"Waiting on a Friend" is from "Tattoo You", 1981 and a great sone, but I still prefer "Anybody Seen My Baby" from 1997's "Bridges to Babylon" album. Which besides being a great song, also had a great video (as did "Waiting on a Friend"). click below to watch it.

I've always wondered about who played the beautiful lead guitar on it, I suspect it might be Waddy Wachtel who was on the record, as it sounds more like him than Keith or Ronnie.
