My prime setting is OFF for my $26 flip phone.

No GPS, no data and not much of anything to be honest - but I can make telephone calls....

iPhone users since February 2023. All settings were made the first week we own our phones. Have avoided the upgrade to iOS 18 and all of the AI nonsense.

Having a phone track you is inconsequential compared to the many other ways businesses track you.

Not to mention the Federal Government.

Anyone tracking my location is going to be wildly disappointed. I guess they could use it to figure out when I am not home, so they could rob me. Again, they will be wildly disappointed.

Kim Komando was a top-notch OS/2 user/supporter.

I still use OS/2, but now it’s called Arca Noae.

Far superior to Windows in every way.

I wouldn’t say any of them are secret. And if you turn them don’t expect to find a restaurant near you anymore, cause they won’t know where you are.

I hope they are keeping up with my and my hubby’s doctor’s appointments and will remind me 24 hours in advance. I’d hate to miss one since that seems to be the only socializing we do these days.

You meet some interesting people in the doctor’s waiting room. I know some say not to bring up politics in such a setting, but we just can’t help ourselves. It’s a much more interesting discussion than the home renovation show they have on their TV.

So far, our polling (and this is from voters of all races and from all walks of life) shows Trump with 90% support and Kamala with about 10%).

I assume I’m being tracked on my phone 24/7. I’m positive I’m tracked by Amazon, ad agencies, and of course the U.S. government. I’m sure they get frustrated when we don’t leave the house for days at a time or my phone is turned off and left upstairs on the charger.

I like Kim. I used to listen to her weekend show on AM radio, some 15 years ago. Good to know she’s still active in the techie community. She was always upbeat and engaging.

The best smartphone for privacy at the moment is one with the CalyxOS (Android) ROM. By default it blocks the G**gle store but runs the MicroG alternative, and comes with the Aurora and F-Droid stores' apps installed. LineageOS, for one, has a bone to pick with microG, so they to not include it in their ROM, which is a major hassle for the end-user who refused to get in bed with G**gle.

CalyxOX also comes with WiFi and BlueTooth MAC Address spoofing installed an activated by default, which still leaves the problem of being identified through your IMEI every time your phone "handshakes" with a cell tower, but that's a problem no one in the privacy community has a solution to except turning off the phone.

CalyxOS is "slicker" than most of the other privacy-focused ROMs (such as LineageOS) because it's only made to run on a very few smartphones, so it's a "better fit" than if it were more of the one-size-fits-all variety .

Phones preinstalled with CalyxOX are spendier than the phones I used to self-install LineageOS on, but the the end product is so much better functioning that, to me, amortized over an anticipated four year phone life, it was worth the cost.
