Day #40 of the Top 50 songs on my iTunes playlist -- ranked in reverse order by play frequency from #50 to #1 and presented here on a series of FR threads. I've been posting them here on a new thread that compiles the growing list one day at a time over the last couple of months. I only post them on weekdays and may miss a day or two here and there, so we are getting down to the last few weeks here.
And to show my gratitude to the FR management for giving us all a forum to post vanity threads like this, I'll be making contributions for both the 3rd and 4th quarter fundraisers. I would encourage everyone on these threads to do the same! :-)
Have fun with this, folks!

I'd also point out that I have refrained from posting official music videos of these songs as I've worked through this list. I made an exception here because the video itself has an interesting story behind it. The location where the first part of the video was filmed is the same pair of buildings at 96-98 St. Marks Place in the East Village of New York City that can be found on the cover of the 1975 Led Zeppelin album, Physical Graffiti.
Let me know if you'd like to be added or removed from the ping list!
IIRC Waiting On A Friend was recorded during the “Exile” sessions.
Great tune!
I did not know that. Very interesting.
It is. And I’m not much of a Rolling Stones fan!
Please add me to the ping list.
I’m probably on board with 50% of what you picked with maybe another 30% just being the same artist but a different song. For example I would go with Rush’s Subdivisions over Time Stand still.
Thanks.
I saw Zep right about the time of this album-—the black “Icarus” t-shirt, which I had until the 1990s.
They. Were. Terrible. Plant couldn’t hit any high notes, Page was so drunk he couldn’t even cross his legs when he sat down. Bonham & Jones just a dull roar.
My singer, at the time, went as well and I didn’t know he was there. Later we touched base. He said the same thing. Worst concert he ever saw.
Also Sonny Rollins did the sax solo.
And they didn’t think he would want to do it, so they almost didn’t call.
It's a great idea to see what others see as their Top 50.
While you rate Solsbury Hill as #50, it rates much higher on my list. No complaint about the rest.
The Stones album “Tatoo You” in 81, was actually a collection of songs the Stones rejected, years before. The best song was “hang fire”.
“Hang Fire” was a condemnation of Labour’s rule of Britain. Jagger was a supporter of Margaret Thatcher.
You have been added — just in time for the Top 10 next week!
Thanks!
Which is why Peter Grant assaulted Grand Funk Railroad’s manager, threatening him if they didn’t pull out as Zep’s opening act, because they were blowing Zep off the stage.
Believe it our not, one of my favorite Stones songs.
I do believe it. LOL.
As a trio, GFR were right up there with Jimi Hendrix or Cream. Once they added keyboards, something changed.
BTW, Vanilla Fudge insisted on putting Zep on their 1969 tour, and even agreed that whichever band had the #1 song in whatever city they were playing, that band would headline.
