Donald Trump's McDonald's Shift Went Down Best With Gen Z
Newsweek ^ | 10/24/24 | Jordan King

Donald Trump's shift at a Pennsylvania McDonald's was most popular with Gen Z, a new poll shows.

The former President, known for his love of fast food, made headlines when he learned how to make fries at a branch in Feasterville-Trevose in Bucks County last weekend.

The apprentice worker held an impromptu news conference via the drive-thru window, and used the opportunity to repeat his claims that Kamala Harris has been lying about working for the fast-food chain in her college years.

Harris has referenced her McDonald's stint multiple times. In an August 31 post on X, formerly Twitter, she referred to herself as "a daughter of Oakland, California, who was raised by a working mother and had a summer job at McDonald's."

A total of 39 percent of Gen Z (people born between 1997 and 2012) said Trump's stunt made them like him somewhat or much more.

This is significantly more than the 23 percent of Gen Z who said the shift made them like Trump less, while 38 percent said it did not impact how much they like Trump.

The 39 percent who said they liked the 78-year-old Republican presidential candidate more after his stint comprises 21 percent who said they liked him much more and 18 percent who said they liked him somewhat more.

Excellent point.

Recall during the RNC, there was no shortage of people on stage talking about there past associations and relationships with McCain.

At the DNC, there was not one single person presented to vouch for Obama or speak to his past.

I think it went over well because McDonald's is an iconic brand across the entire nation. It seems like you can't travel 10 miles in any direction from anywhere in the U.S. and not see one.

It would have had less of an impact on a national scale if the campaign event had been staged at a generic "Joe's Diner" in the same town.

“There is one old practice that you will never see Kamala Harris do. She will never hold or kiss a live baby.”

I wonder how often she (or Obama) shows patriotism?

That definitely played a part. The number of people who have worked at McDonald's is huge. They all had a first day on the job, and most can relate to some of what he went through. (Getting those darned fries into the little bags and boxes isn't easy the first few times you do it, as we saw.)

But the whole thing could have bombed if Trump didn't come across the way he did. That exchange he had with the manager was hilarious. Trump asked "How much are you paying me?" and the manager came back with "How much are YOU paying ME?" And they both laughed.
