Folks, advice needed:
I live in South Philadelphia, the heart of the inner city.
Some non-negotiable things: I’m not moving, I won’t surrender the ownership of my home, no surrender.
So, in anticipation of the Election, I’ve stocked up on batteries, lanterns, charcoal, matches, canned goods, fire extinguishers, cash, gold, candles, ammo, non-firing weapons, first aid supplies (wife is a Nurse) and gasoline.
Anyone better versed in this than I am have suggestions which I may have overlooked?
Pray to God. Ask him for divine guidance and provision.
Fire of large swaths of homes is a concern. Perhaps you could hose down your roof/property/shrubs/trees in preparation, have a hose up to your roof, and/or have a hose to your main living area for ready access.
“A firing weapon might be a good item to have on hand …”
I’m going with a flame thrower.
Beer!!
Mr mm has found that he researches something on Amazon and then goes to eBay to find actual dealers who sell it and it goes directly to the person selling and not Amazon.
It doesn’t necessarily avoid make in China stuff but he usually finds what he wants for better quality and less money than Amazon.
Oh yes drinking water is priority. I always have plenty of Dasani water bottles on hand. Traveling by car in Florida must carry plenty bottles of water from April thru Oct.
Bidet is so convenient, quick, effective, easy to install, cheap. Only thing I miss on cruise ships is bidet.
Water container......rinse out garbage cans as best you can.
Place large garbage bag insider, fill with water, throw in a cap full of bleach, tie top shut.
Fish hooks on piano wire, plywood fill of nails, beer cans with rocks
Much more reliable than bath tub which always has slow leaks. I think I will buy a new container just for hurricane issues.
Reminds me of “Home Alone”.
“Take it out, take it out
like a good girl scout.” LOL
5 gallon buckets. Store things in them while clean 13 gallon bags will fit. Buy toilet seat to fit ( Amazon?). Some product like this TTDMK®
URINE SOLID GEL SUPER ABSORBENT & INSTANT ODOR ELIMINATOR (also Amazon. Works on urine and will help de-scent excrement. Now you know what the buckets are for. Maybe even Walmart pet odor remover.
Firstly go to the archeives, and see what is appropriate for your situation.
Take the appropriate information for your situation, .. and leave the rest.

If you are concerned about rioting and fires, use your brain, use the OODA loop : Observe
Orient
Decide
Act !
#1) Get yourself a good usable fire extinguisher ; one can be had in stores; cheeper one cn be had at towing companies or salvage yards
since they salvage anything that is usable from tractor trailer wrecks and can be had for a few dollars.
Check to make sure it has pressure, or has recently recharged on the attached gauge. (And that it is rated : A,B,C)
#2a) Store up water supplies- whether a 24 or 32 pack from the store, or in gallon jugs, or a bathtub bob because water will be in short supply,
and you need potable water for cooking, drinking, and washing. And water will be needed for fire suppression.
#2b) Prepare hoses for fire suppression on your personal property (pre-water with stored garden hoses, which may also be used later),
and/but garden hose is generally inadequate for most household fire suppression.
Know how and when to leave your premises. Smoke and heat rise, so be prepared to crawl to any known unobstructed exit.
#3) Have on hand a supply of anti-bacterial soap for burns, germ control, and cuts and abrasions (Dove anti-bacterial soap ; suitable to hospital surgical soap).
#4) Develop and find similar minded community as neither Republicans nor Democrats want their houses to burn down.
Most of one's finances are locked up in real estate, as well as emotional mementos, even renters don't want to lose valuables, or mementos.
#4b) If you are affiliated with a religious church or organization, notify your minister or pastor of your concerns
and determine if there is a sanctuary for church members, food pantry, or a safe rest area.
#5) Make copies of credit cards and necessary documents (insurance, bank accounts & receipts, State issued identity, licenses, etc.) in your 'go bag'.
#6) Have a phone list of fire emergency, police emergency, or ambulance taped on a wall in a central location, and have all adults familiar with the location;
make copies if need be. Do it now, before any emergency!
#7) Charge up all cell phones while there is power; most cell towers have a battery which will last for 3 hours even if power is cut off.
An 'iron phone' is a land line which is self-powered by the phone utility company.
#8) If you choose to defend your property, know your State Law on self-defense and when you can and cannot use 'deadly physical force'.
In most States it is legal to use 'deadly physical force' in response to threats of 'deadly physical force,
or in instances of rape, murder, armed robbery and arson {especially an occupied dwelling. (In my State it is).
#9) If you feel the need to be armed, have a pistol until you can reach your shotgun or rifle !
This requires some pre-planning and may require lengthy State documentation and licensing.
#10) A shotgun is used for close proximity; a rifle is used for distance (I know that is is logical, but it needs to be repeated)
#11) I haven't list the other optional necessities such as black-out curtains, batteries, battery operated radio, etc., since most urban riots have rarely lasted more than a few days.
Nonetheless a spreading urban riot mentality could last for weeks at which point all civility has been challenged and may be compromised.
There is much appropriate information contained in the archives dealing with food storage, self defense in situations dealing with long term conditions.
Review the resources before you need them, or as the Scouts used to say - Be prepared !
If they won’t disperse after the Riot Act is read Open Fire!!!
I hear you.
But I do recommend that you learn from Rittenhouse.
He, I think, was originally intending to protect a particular business location. Rioters taunting him and threatening to take his rifle were discouraged, I think, mainly by the fact that Kyle was not alone.
Later, Kyle changed his mission and separated from other like-minded individuals, thus making himself appear weaker than he was. If the skateboard guy, who Kyle killed, had been just a tad more successful, then Lefty, who got his arm blown up, might have killed Kyle. It was very close.
I recommend that you identify like-minded people in your area who share your concern about your neighborhood. Arm yourselves with AR15s; they are recognizable to the rioters and, if confronted with a number of armed guardians, they will be deterred. They will assume that you can kill them all without having to reload.
My area is about half conservative and half liberal. The numbers don't properly reflect the lethality.
If you can't recruit help, then you are definitely living in the wrong place. To quote Patton, "No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country." (This is from the movie. Perhaps Patton never said this. It's worth remembering though.)
Oh “plug!” not “pug”.... That’s my problem. No wonder he hates baths so much.
Most people don't have bidets, but it's easy to shower after defecation. The cosmetic effects alone are worth it. The detrimental public health effects of not washing are comparable to not washing the hands after defecation.
I'm a physician. I'm sure this affects my judgment in this matter, but washing the perineum after defecation is as important as washing hands--and certainly before entering a swimming pool.
If thinking about this gives people the creeps, that's a good thing. Maybe it will inspire better hygiene.
Our church is having a one-day class on survival in the midst of crises. The man leading it is an expert on wilderness survival and firearms. They will be offering survival supplies as well.
If water is scarce, what about wipes, like baby wipes?
And with that thought, get some nitrile gloves.
I’ve installed and repaired many expensive Kohler and American Standard Bidets and think every bathroom should have one, or the one of the compromise versions, but your new discovery of the health hazards of toilet paper alone sound like the usual hysteria from the feminized left that SUDDENLY the previous million years of a normal routine is now deadly.
