Western Public Finances are a mess
FR ^ | Oct 14 | RF

Posted on 10/14/2024 2:32:14 PM PDT by RandFan

The sums are huge this side of the pond. Cuts needed in the billions. In the US, it's in the trillions.

Its a complete mess and I dont think people are quite ready for what's needed to even balance the books.

Are you prepared for it?

Trump will likely win but his term will have many challenges. He will have to make massive cuts to services.

Apparently, Elon Musk is going to be hired to bring about "efficiency savings" in government.

They should make it a cabinet level rank and let him work.

Yes

I think this is why they want World War III so much - they need an excuse as to why it all collapsed

The US has expenses, such as Social Security, that cannot be touched. But, we also have vast expenses that people think are “important” but which need to be attacked with a meat cleaver. Energy, Education, EPA, FBI, CIA, welfare, etc. Through deregulation and reform, we can have a vibrant economy that supports everyone and we can do it by having the government DO less and SPEND less. I think the federal budget could be cut 50%. Maybe more.

Yes. I see Biden sabotage Harris. I see Bill Clinton sabotage Harris. I see the media sabotage Harris. I get the strong idea that the world will collapse in 2025 (maybe WWIII, or maybe just a simple collapse) and I think that the Progressives and the Neocons want to watch it all implode and they intend to shrug and say, "Yeah: Trump did that. Obviously."

Musk is a good guy. He’d be an asset to Trump 2.0.

Now here’s the thing. We desperately need Trump back in the White House. But Trump 1.0 did not care about the federal deficit in the least. He did not veto a single major spending bill. Yes, I get that Congress is the main culprit when it comes to federal spending. But the buck always stops at the president’s desk.

Will Trump 2.0 be more responsible? Or will he be like most of DC, and just kick the can down the road?

Trump, in business and in government, has never been known for his fiscal restraint

He will have to make massive cuts to services.

I don't think so. Its just like when the dems want to raze taxes, they always threaten cuts to law enforcement/fire/EMS or any other necessary gov function.

The first thing Obama closed during the last gov/shutdown was the national parks and war memorials. Because Americans like them. If he threatened to shutdown NPR no one would care.

Far to many federal government agencies provide "services" to no one but themselves and their Rabies in government and cooperate America.

They are a net drain on productivity, the economy and no one would notice their absence aside from the increased in economic performance.

We have missive agencies that do nothing. An energy department that creates no energy, an education department that educates no kids and countless other departments that only exist to spend tax dollars and muck everything up.

Musk will have his work cut out for him. As he said he's really going to break the matrix.

Because of the way our monetary system is setup, using a pure fiat currency. A Balanced Budget is an IMMEDIATE 6% minimum Reduction in GDP and will be like a Depression of 1929 but much worse.

The problem with cuts is one of definitions. All government spending IS a component of GDP. Cutting spending necessarily reduces GDP (recession). A massive cut of 10% would be the technical definition of a depression. The eneMedia would run with those talking points, blowing out republicans in 2026 and leading to his next impeachment.

The only solution that will work politically is to inflate the debt away in size.

“I dont think people are quite ready for what’s needed to even balance the books.“

What you call “the books” will not be “balanced”, not ever. What they will be is burned.
