After years of false starts, the iconic British rock band Pink Floyd has agreed to sell their recorded-music and name-and-likeness rights to Sony Music for approximately $400 million, sources confirm to Variety.

The deal, one of the largest of many in recent years, apparently has finally concluded despite decades of ongoing infighting and bitter words between the bandmembers, notably chief songwriters Roger Waters and David Gilmour;

I would not be surprised if all the pink Floyd songs start disappearing on you tube.

I'm surprised they got that much, as the listener base for Pink Floyd (like me) gets older and dies off.

Syd Barrett took a lot of acid and Roger Waters went insane.

Go figure.

I’m guessing Roger Waters will file another lawsuit to figure out who gets what.

I just recently listened to Pink Floyd (deliberately) for the first time in nearly 20 years.

I used to be a huge Pink Floyd fan, and then I went to a Roger Waters concert. I was in a large group of 10-15 people, all good friends.

In retrospect, I should have seen what was coming, but...I didn’t.

It turned into a 3 hour political audiovisual tirade against all things conservative and Israel, with some music mixed in. It looked like Code Pink put together the slide and video shows they had going on.

I didn’t want to ruin the evening for the people I went with, but I was steaming mad. I grit my teeth and sat there. At the end of the “concert”, they released a 40 foot high ballon of a pig with “F*ck Bush” on one side and “Vote Democrat” on the other.

I had been unable to listen to any Pink Floyd music since then. It STILL pisses me off.

Songwriting credits generally. In order: Waters, Gilmour, Wright and Mason. With Waters and Gilmour way ahead. Wright is deceased, so it would be his estate, and Mason only had writing credits for a few songs.

“Gilmour recently told Rolling Stone that he was interested in a sale less for financial reasons than “to be rid of the decision making and the arguments that are involved with keeping it going,” which he described as “my dream.”

I would bet the wrangling over whether or not to include liner notes in the Animals remix had much to do with the decision to sell and be rid of the headaches.

I think “Dogs” is Gilmour’s best work.

I first heard Animals when I was 17 and it became most likely the album I've listened to more than any other.

I consider Dogs the best rock song ever recorded by anyone. And Gilmour's work on it is masterful. Just sublime. Perfect in every way.

I consider that solo a musical sacrament; there is simply nothing that compares.

Was asked once to name what I thought was the most perfect song where every note and lyric was perfect, that is the song I named. I just love every note of it. I truly envy you if you can play the solo. It brings a tear to my eye.

I agree, was watching a reaction video to comfortably numb and first comment I read said a guy was listening to comfortably numb with his girl friend and said this is the second best guitar solo ever and she asked what is the best and he said “wait a minute” lol

Obviously those who like most notes per second will not agree.

Reminds me of a music review after the last ohio state university stadium concert, which I went to, and the guy should have started his review with I don’t like pink Floyd and here is my review.

Different strokes…. I thought it was amazing and not just because of the aromatic smoke that filled the air 😎

Agree

I love Pink Floyd, and ‘Comfortably Numb’ is a great solo, but I thought the solo in ‘Another brick in the wall’ was better. Starting with the kickoff lick that launches into it. Very unique, new, different and imaginative.

Congratulations, British Government! 45% for having nothing to do with this music.

“ I'm surprised they got that much, as the listener base for Pink Floyd (like me) gets older and dies off. ”

Also almost all their record sales come from just 4 albums. Dark Side, Wish you were Here, Animals and The Wall.

In one survey they had comfortably numb solo as third, queen solo was first don’t remember 2nd.

Besides loving Pink Floyd style of music, what amazes me about Gilmore is the lengths of many of his solos and that he created them and can repeat them so well esp in concert.

Playing then is one thing, creating them is a whole nother level genius

One of the things I really appreciated about the concert at the shoe was just how the music was to the albums.

Definitely a high light for me

Pretty much sums up Gilmore IMO
