Ok just posting this one time, these are now being shipped (in Vietnam)
—
VinFast (VFS) announced it has officially begun shipping its new mini electric SUV, the VinFast VF 3. Starting under $13,000, the new VF 3 generated strong buzz, with VinFast calling it a “social media phenomenon” ahead of shipments.
After introducing the VF 3 in January, VinFast said the new mini electric SUV is designed to make city travel “not only sustainable but also more accessible.”
Four months later, VinFast opened pre-orders with a special introductory price of 235 million VND, or about $9,248. That’s for the battery subscription model. Between May 13 and 15, VinFast offered the VF 3 (with the battery) for 315 million VND, or around $12,400.
VinFast noted that paying for the VF 3 in full costs half the price of the cheapest gas-powered car in Vietnam.
However, buyers could opt for a 50 to 70 million VND ($2,000 to $2,750) down payment, with the rest financed for over eight years.
Within 66 hours, VinFast secured 27,649 pre-orders, a new Vietnam automotive record. VinFast called the VF 3 a “social media phenomenon in Vietnam,” topping the trends charts.

They will start being released in the Philippines, next. Apparently in America in 2026. I think.
Not sure whether VinFast will be producing them at their new production plant in North Carolina.
But they are now being produced in Vietnam.
Small (tiny) cars.
You must be heavily betting on Chinese cars.
You post this stuff constantly.
No thx. Try pushing Amwerica for a change.
Sorry I have not posted at all about any cars in months.
Just this one time, to say production has started.
Just this one time.
😎
This little car would be a large step up from a motorcycle or a tuk tuk. That’s what people seem to not grasp. Vietnam has tons of motorcycles and many people want to go to enclosed and especially air conditioned travel. No wonder I’m Vietnam these are selling like hot cakes. Love the country but man is humidity brutal if these little things have AC they already are a win. I love how the boomer especially fly over boomers immediately scream these things will never survive on the interstates. Yeah because they never would be on a interstate they are urban city cars designed to replace motorcycles and three wheelers in function and price point. Nothing more nothing less. I bet they sell out in Hanoi and also Ho Chi Minh City.
You do realise that Vinfast is a Vietnamese automaker , manufacturing and selling cars to Vietnam right. They are improving the standards of living for local Vietnamese citizens that’s a good thing. At the price point they are selling at people who previously that could only afford a motorbike can now have fully enclosed from the elements transportation that’s a game changer for that person. The OP lives in Vietnam so I would imagine this is a win for him too.
(am America by birth)
Now happily living in Vietnam.
It is wonderful here, though the traffic is truly hard to believe. Awful.
🛺
Yugo II.
The new VinFast is a very nice (though very small) car.
VERY small.
But it is quite nice, for the market. It is not a fast long distance cruiser. But it is top quality, very very cheap, and is perfect for short trips.
It goes to freeway speeds.
(for short distances)
But it is primarily a car you would use for cheap, handy (air conditioned if you request it) travel about town.
It does not go terribly far, around 150km before it requires re-charging. Less of you need air conditioning.
But it is nice, for what it was designed for...
Thank you for posting this article. We are now in HCMC en route to relocating to central Vietnam and have been on the lookout for options to motorbikes. The novelty of the two of us driving a motorbike in the city is wearing thin as yes, the traffic is ferocious and exhausting.
Yup.
I rode a smallish cycle on the freeways in Los Angeles for years.
No problems. Then I moved here. I was fine for years. Then suddenly I wasn’t. I had a series of accidents. After one bad one.
It seems that changed me. So I sold the bike.
Am currently not riding a bike. At all.
Luckily taxies are still inexpensive.
🙃
Pretty neat little vehicle and seems like a good fit for that market. I assume people will mostly be charging them at home although it does say they can be fast charged to 70% in 36 minutes.
The battery subscription is an interesting way to do it.
Get “t-boned” by an 18 wheeler while riding in one and they’ll be mopping you up with a sponge.
That goes for pretty much every vehicle…
Can it be used as a golf cart?
They might be OK in Vietnam, but don’t seem suited for the U.S. I sure don’t want one. A solid normal size U.S. made car seems the best way to go here, but I sure wish they would get away from some of the needless electronics & other garbage we could get along without & reduce the prices.
Yep.
That is it.
