Total jerk
Why not try to keep more wealth within the family, instead of making somebody else richer?
“but you are my bank Daddy”
Is he taking his money with him ?
Maybe she had gone to the well one too many times.
Yep
He gets to enjoy the perks of wealth — that he made simply by investing in the stock market and then charging ppl for his management services — but his adult children don’t? What a POS.
If his daughter was a loafer or on drugs I could understand his reaction. If she or her husband were working and asking for help and he refused, he’s an ass*ole
41k to make room for a high chair? Nope.
I assume that Warren had paid for her college education. So what else does she need? She should be to get a decent job and support herself.
He’s a scumbag. Thinks inheritance tax should be 100%. This of course is because all his money is in the Gates foundation. Foundations are the way wealthy families maintain their fortunes. Everybody else should give it to the government.
He probably figured eventually, he would be timidly asked to ‘forgive’ the loan, because his daughter may not have been organized enough to continue payments, and he may have also figured that he would be to weak to say ‘No’ at that point.
JEEZE he could have given her a loan at a MUCH LOWER interest rate!!
He’s an excellent far-left turd roller.
He is too busy with the deep state.
If I had his billions, I’d give my adult children a lump sum every 5-10 yrs that they had to manage until the next lump sum. They’d also have to have a regular job in order to get that money. When I died, they’d get a chunk of what’s left but I’d give half of it away. I wouldn’t spoil them but I’d give them a leg up, especially in an economy like we have today where most ppl are barely surviving.
The daughter did not ask for a $10,000,000 present. She asked her billionaire father for a $41,000 loan and was turned down.
Plus side: The daughter will learn the value of money.
Minus side: The daughter will learn to hate the father.
Buffett is known to be a poker player. A good poker player will learn to weigh the pluses and minuses of every move. Evidently Buffett did not do that here.
Side note: This assumes we know all there is to know about the incident. But maybe the daughter has welched on many previous loans.
At some point as a parent you need to cut the umbilical cord and the kids need to stand on their own. I have to stop myself from getting my daughter everything, her 11th birthday was a few days ago and she had asked for several items that IMHO she’d only use once or twice (e.g. a mushroom shaped hat). I told her if she wants it buy it on her own, which I know she has more than enough money, but she learned from her mom that daddy’s money spends better.
So his daughter is obviously an adult and needs to learn to be on her own.
Stupid headline. In the end Susie said dad was right.
I can’t form an opinion on a 10-yr old one-side-of-the-story from a very partial participant.
