Warren Buffett, one of the wealthiest people in the world with a net worth of $142 billion, according to Bloomberg, is also known for his generosity. He has donated billions to charity over the years, but when it comes to his kids, handouts aren’t part of the deal.
In the HBO Becoming Warren Buffett documentary, Susie Buffett shared a story that gives a glimpse into her father's frugality. This wasn't the first time she had discussed it. Back in 2011, a Globe and Mail article mentioned that Susie once asked her father for a $41,000 loan to renovate her kitchen after she had a baby. She needed to make room for the high chair, but Warren's response was to tell her to "go to the bank like everyone else."

Ask him how much he threw away supporting Killary when she ran for President.
It’s kind of evil, in a seemingly benign way.
Of course they are free to do as they wish with their money. That doesn’t make them any less of a jerk.
He was known for being a horrible person. Very mean guy, apparently.
Candi Spelling comes to mind. There are grandkids that are suffering while she keeps money away from tori.
Candi blames tori for her husband’s death.
While they feud those little kids suffer.
Buffet claims to live frugally in old house, drives an old car, etc. The point is if he is living the good life at other properties it means he’s a liar.
Agreed although I question if this is true.
Our under counter wine/beverage Kitchen Aid fridge was $1,000 more than the full sized one with an ice maker.
I’m dumbfounded. My college refrigerator cost $150-200.
Warren Buffet’s daughter and son-in-law wouldn’t need a dime from him IMHO. If they work, they could have cushy jobs nearly everywhere and get paid huge bucks.
They sure messed up that kidnapped Getty kid. The father had to take out a 4 percent loan from his father to pay ransom.
Murdochs are in the middle of a lawsuit with each other involving more than 70 lawyers. I see elizabeth murdochs name on Masterchef credits
Depends on how big the kitchen is, just how much remodeling is needed like if you have to move a wall, and how expensive the cupboards are.
We did a kitchen remodel a few years ago and removed part of a wall that separated the main part of the kitchen from the breakfast nook. Quite a mess, but it gave us a little extra cupboard space.
But it is for a high chair. Be reasonable! /s
If i ever did feel any thing bad for saying no to my kid for similar I certainly don’t now. So I guess I’m a jerk too. Oh well😐😐
“$41k is quite the remodeling job!”
Not at all, especially for a kitchen depending on the Scope Of Work. Six months ago we spiffed up a large pantry with cabinets, remodeled a closet by adding 3 sets of doors, and put a small closet in a bedroom. $32K. No plumbing, flooring, or countertops were involved
True.
A lot of what the Buffet family says is posturing and PR
Another option would be to set up a trust the his kids had no access to until the parent dies. Load that sucker up. Otherwise his kids will get hit with a hell of an inheratence tax that they won’t be able to pay. You would think that Buffet knows what happened to Joe Robbe and his family.
Joe Robbe owned the Miami Dolphins. When he died his business passed down to his kids. The federal tax was so much that the kids had to sell the franchise to be able to pay the tax.
We spent 30K on a house remodel. Revamped the kitchen. Countertops, cabinet doors and paint. Painted the house and re carpeted. Cashed in a 401K to do this. I figured the upgrades will pay off when I sell the house on a better rate than what the 401 would generate. And we are not in the Buffet level of wealth.
I live in Ca. where EVERYTHING is out of control expensive permits and regulations galore, I work part time at Home Depot I have watched prices in Ca. SKYROCKET for everything so 41K to me is cheap!! A kitchen remodel in Ca. would run at least 70K!! Take out a 2nd on the house TODAY for the cost would be insane due to interest rates!!
Jeeze, I thought he WAS the bank.
