Warren Buffett, one of the wealthiest people in the world with a net worth of $142 billion, according to Bloomberg, is also known for his generosity. He has donated billions to charity over the years, but when it comes to his kids, handouts aren’t part of the deal.
In the HBO Becoming Warren Buffett documentary, Susie Buffett shared a story that gives a glimpse into her father's frugality. This wasn't the first time she had discussed it. Back in 2011, a Globe and Mail article mentioned that Susie once asked her father for a $41,000 loan to renovate her kitchen after she had a baby. She needed to make room for the high chair, but Warren's response was to tell her to "go to the bank like everyone else."

Not a prick, money lending among family is a recipe for disaster.
This isn’t a life necessity she is asking help with.. it’s a kitchen remodel.
What do you mean he’s a scumbag. Hey, they got their Foundations and we got Go-Fund Me.
Twenty something years ago while still living in TEXAS, I had an occasion to go into the bank lobby in Huffman Texas. George Foreman lived just down the street from me and he was also in the lobby. I went up an introduced myself, shook his hand and told him how much of an admirer I was of him. We talked a short while and he informed me he was there to co-sign a note for one of George Juniors”they are all George jrs” to buy a car. He was not there to buy his son a car, but to co-sign for him. That told me a whole lot about that man.
I’m not a rich man, but when my kids ask for help, I give it.
I tell my kids when the time comes to do the same for their kids.
Once of the keys to the success of Asians is that they understand the importance of keeping wealth within the extended family.
Mass murder comes in many forms.
When you are the child of a 100 billionaire you are trapped in a security web that wealth demands.
This isn’t like Susie cream cheese down the road. Her family are targets because of daddy.
Tough life. Will get tougher as gangs spread out through the country
I have had relatives who give all for strangers.
Some kids are not worth leaving any thing.
33% of parents have at least one child who has cut contact and become estranged. Many permanently.
He said many years ago he wasn’t going to pass on much of anything to his kids.
I said, I'd like to see the new grandkid if you don't mind
She said, I'd love to, dad, if I can find the time
You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, dad
It's been sure nice talking to you
And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me
She'd grown up just like me
My girl was just like me
His daughter was born in 52. If she had a daughter at age 30 that is 1982. $41,000 would buy a lot of remodeling in 1982.
He’s full of crap. Foundations are perpetual employment machines for his progeny. Employment means hosting charity fundraisers and traveling around on the company dime. Meanwhile if you want to leave the family hardware store to your kids, Buffet thinks you should be taxed out of doing that.
Ditto.
Well, she asked for a loan, not a handout.
That’s the price for a mid-range kitchen remodeling job. It’s actually not that much.
Yep.
He’s so generous except with his own family. That’s just mean. There is nothing wrong with helping your family.
Smart.
And kidnappings.
