A woman has filed a lawsuit against Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of the popular diabetes drugs marketed under the the brand names Ozempic and Wegovy, claiming that the drug’s labeling doesn’t adequently warn about the potential side effects.
One of those side effects, Juanita Gantt claimed on CBS Mornings, impacted her colon, which she asserts had to be removed as a result of the medication.
Novo Nordisk has responded to the claims, saying the suit is "without merit."
Gantt says she was first prescribed Wegovy, and then Ozempic, because her doctor thought she was at risk of developing diabetes. As she told CBS, the 62-year-old weighed 242 lbs.
At first, she said, "I was feeling fine. I enjoyed the days that I didn't have to worry about my appetite. I didn't have cravings. I just felt like I was doing something positive for myself.”
But in October 2023, Gantt says her husband found her unconscious on the floor.
She told CBS that parts of her large intestine had died and needed to be removed; While recovering from surgery, she went into cardiac arrest.
She now lives with an ileostomy bag. As the Cleveland Clinic explains, it’s the result of a surgery that changes the way your body excretes waste.

Bless her heart. I hope something triggers in her body and things start working again. It is just crazy how quickly things go wrong.
I don't either.
Have you been to an endocrinologist to get a full blood panel? You may have hormonal or thyroid issues.
Yep - I dumped a doctor after he wanted to put me on statins even though my cholesterol was at perfect levels - because “it was recommended for men over 55”...I told him I needed a more convincing/compelling argument to put unneeded poison in my body.
I remind such folks that the preface of every statistics book warns that statistics should not be applied to individuals.
Docs will study statistics and probabilities such as:
-Untreated condition X results in 4 out of 10 fatalities.
-But with treatment Y, there are 1 out of 10 fatalities.
-But treatment Y also has side effects with 1 out of 10 fatalities.
-Ergo, a net minus 2 out of 10 fatalities means treat Condition X with Y.
Note there is no accounting for an individual above.
So if you line up 10 people, a doc would not be able to identify who among them would be the ones to die untreated vs treated vs side effect.
That’s why it should always remain an individual decision.
They think that I am just extremely low metabolism. It seems that the estimates of calories burned are just observational. They do not know, really, how many calories YOU burn. One doc said I should be proud my body is so efficient. Should the sh!t hit the fan, I’ll live longer. Yay.
The interview was the one RFK Jr had with Tucker Carlson. It did not come up when I searched for RFK Jr interview! But if you search with both names it will come up.
Look, your doctor is not going to start an argument with you in his office and call you a liar to your face. I’m not going to call you a liar either, but I do know that a lot of people overlook a lot of calories they consume without realizing it or wanting to admit it to themselves, especially with drinks.
Can I be certain that I’m right in your case? No. Would I bet good money that if I could lock you in a house for a month with no other access to food besides the 1200 cals I delivered every day would you be a lot lighter after a month? Yes. Maybe you’re somehow right and I would lose that bet, but I don’t think I would. Maintaining 262 lbs on 1200 cals a day unless you laid in bed all day stretches the laws of physics in ways that shouldn’t really be possible.
I get your skepticism. The food was prepackaged meals. On most you just added water and microwave it. I was allowed a limited amount of ketchup on the faux burgers. I ate absolutely nothing else.
I only very rarely drink alcohol. I do not drink sodas. I drink a cup of coffee with a little low fat milk and Splenda. Once in a while I drink sugar free iced tea. I drink a lot of water.
My wife and I run our company together, so we are together 24/7. She is normal sized, 5' 2" and about 120 pounds, and eats more than I do, by far. She helped monitor what I ate and accompanied me to my doctors appointments.
Trust me, it is VERY frustrating when you hear "I gave up beer and lost 50 pounds!" or "I stopped drinking Cokes and lost 25 pounds!" There is nothing in my diet like that. Instead, I get to go "I went on a three day fast and lost a pound!" My cardiologist didn't believe me either. He put a monitor on me for two weeks. He apologized after getting the results. My heart rate often drops to 30 BPM while sleeping. It is usually in the low to mid 40's during the day. Freaked him out.
Okay, in your case, it does make sense that you would burn far fewer calories than the average person if your heart is operating at half the rate of the average person.
Not to sound like a jerk, but you have to learn to ignore comments like my original reply. You appear to have an exceedingly rare legitimate medical condition such that normal calorie math doesn’t apply to you. Obviously you can’t fake a borderline dangerously low heart rate, but BS excuses related to laziness and lack of discipline for why someone needs pharmaceuticals are a dime a dozen. These people still need to have the truth told to them as often as possible.
