Woman Sues Ozempic Manufacturer After Alleging Medication Led to Colon Removal: 'It Could Happen to You'

A woman has filed a lawsuit against Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of the popular diabetes drugs marketed under the the brand names Ozempic and Wegovy, claiming that the drug’s labeling doesn’t adequently warn about the potential side effects.

One of those side effects, Juanita Gantt claimed on CBS Mornings, impacted her colon, which she asserts had to be removed as a result of the medication.

Novo Nordisk has responded to the claims, saying the suit is "without merit."

Gantt says she was first prescribed Wegovy, and then Ozempic, because her doctor thought she was at risk of developing diabetes. As she told CBS, the 62-year-old weighed 242 lbs.

At first, she said, "I was feeling fine. I enjoyed the days that I didn't have to worry about my appetite. I didn't have cravings. I just felt like I was doing something positive for myself.”

But in October 2023, Gantt says her husband found her unconscious on the floor.

She told CBS that parts of her large intestine had died and needed to be removed; While recovering from surgery, she went into cardiac arrest.

She now lives with an ileostomy bag. As the Cleveland Clinic explains, it’s the result of a surgery that changes the way your body excretes waste.

That stuff is like 2800$ a month. She could have gotten a chef to cook her meals!! Oh wait, you and I paid for it thru our insurance premiums. Her copay was probably $25.

and.... what good did it do her to " feel great" but lose her large intestine????

I tell as many people as I can that crap is bad news! If you suddenly manifested the symptoms this drug causes, your doctor would be running countless tests to find out what is wrong with you.

The countdown is getting closer...

TV show break, then the ad...”Were you or a loved one injured by Ozempic or other GLP-1 products? Call the law firm of XXXXX”

Then phase 2:
News headline “Today Ozempic and other GLP-1 products were pulled from the market”

Drugs generally are not good for you. Ozempic is being touted as a miracle drug, it’s not.

Losing weight couldn’t be any easier nowadays and costs basically nothing. All it takes is a food scale ($10-20), a food tracker app ($0 - I use Fitbit) and some discipline.

Ozempic was never meant to be a weight loss drug, once that became known, the usage of Ozempic exploded...

Who do you think made it known? Follow the money.

...now the unintended consequences of overuse have started to arise.

Not a problem. The current batch of executives will receive their bonuses. The next board can deal with the fallout.

If it destroys your stomach and intestines you probably won’t have much appetite.

Not for everyone...

I am 6’ tall and, right now, about 262. I work out three times a week. I have a physically active job.

I have been on special diets where they provide 100% of the food. I was given 1200 calories a day. I lost 3 pounds in 3 months. It wasn’t until it was cut to 900 calories a day that we cranked up my weight loss to about a pound a week.

My doctors have FINALLY agreed that I have a metabolic issue. Unfortunately the test to nail down the issue costs over $10K and my insurance will not pay for it.

In the meantime they have me on Wegovy. It kills your appetite, virtually erasing all interest in food.

I would rather have them treating the underlying issue...in addition to the weight I have a low heart rate, low-ish blood pressure, and a low body temperature (about 96).

Novo Nordisk is banned from selling this junk in the EU, so the FDA here is easing their way to sales and profits....

I know someone who was taking a GLP1 for T2 diabetes... he permanently lost peripheral vision in one eye. Needless to say, he stopped taking the drug immediately.

These Glp-1 drugs being prescribed for problems that are not on their list are going to get people killed. But it is not the pharmaceutical people that are doing it, it is the doctors. And in some cases, they are prescribing these drugs for weight loss. And to my knowledge the only one of these drugs that is recommended used for that is wegovy. And it is in question because it is being prescribed for obesity not a few pounds.

I’m not a doctor, but I don’t understand how it’s mathematically possible to sustain that weight on 1200 calories a day as the BMR on someone your size is well in excess of that if you even if you spent everyday in bed. 1200 down to 900 is 300 calories a day or 2800 calorie savings a week. A pound is about 3,500 calories, so the math almost checks out there. But, losing a pound a month on 1,200 calories at 262 pounds just doesn’t add up. The calories to maintain that kind of weight have to be coming from somewhere.
