Northern Illinois stunned No. 5 Notre Dame 16-14 with a late field goal by Kanon Woodill on Saturday.
Woodill kicked a 36-yard field goal with 31 seconds left as Notre Dame couldn’t stop the Huskies after a second interception by Riley Leonard. It's Northern Illinois' first win ever against a team ranked in the top 10 of the AP Top 25.

He then sat out the Bowl game to ensure he was not injured—as he was then drafted by the Washington Commanders.
It is ridiculous.
I think the Deion experiment is about to flame out.
Defense is doing alright..
What a genius!
Wait till Texas plays Kentucky
We've seen Peak U.
Our demographics are collapsing. Native born students who are not female realize that it's a bad deal to go to the State U.
This is almost a sweet as Trump beating Hillary.
and the only white guy on the Buffs roster missed a chip shot FG!!!
Bama’s struggling again with USF.
Good news for Northern. The U of I system gets all the attention and the lesser universities are fighting for table scraps.
Yep, good for the NIU kids and fans. Something they’ll never forget.
Exactly. That spot was ridiculous. The guy made the first down.
That explains it!
Don’t forget the terrible weather for most of the year. People need a reason to go to DeKalb, it’s not a place folks would visit on vacation. My brother went to NIU. As state schools go it’s pretty good, and they’ve had a run of scrappy football teams over the past few years...
Some of the collectives are structuring multi-year NIL deals.
Wow!
You are exactly right. Portal is the end of it. Zero school/team spirit and loyalty. Like the country...no character and phony. Imagine Red Grange transferring from Illinois to Purdue or Tom Brady from Michigan to Ohio State in their junior years? Sucks.
Back in the day..as in 40's and 50's..when I was growing up on the south side of Chicago, Notre Dame recruited heavily from that area. (Mike Lind was a classmate, and Dick Butkus at a nearby high school who wanted Notre Dame but was married, went to Illinois.) These were tough, talented, hard nosed guys noted for playing somewhat on the "dirty" side. Having said that, Notre Dame unquestionably had some great teams, coaches and nonpareil school spirit.
So nice! The formerly Catholic school on the Saint Joseph River loses to a “cup cake” ha ha ha ha!
Great job Northern Illinois!
Call it what it is, “College sponsored professional football”.
Heck, I am old enough to remember when a player made a good play, the announcer would mention what his major was and what his GPA was. Now they only mentioned what school he transferred from this year.
