Russia declares state of emergency near border as Ukrainian kamikaze drone blows up Putin missile dump in huge explosion

RUSSIA has declared a state of emergency in one of its regions after Kyiv launched a huge kamikaze drone strike on a missile storage facility.

Video circulating on social media showed explosions erupt in Russia's Voronezh region after a hit on one of Vlad's ammunition dumps.

Authorities were urgently evacuating residents after the Ukrainians struck around 3am.

A huge blaze burned and there were follow-up explosions throughout the night.

Footage taken from a highway showed constant explosions as the night sky was lit up by bright orange flashes.

A major highway was closed while shells and other munitions exploded.

The eruptions continued for hours, according to local Telegram channels.

Voronezh governor Alexander Gusev said: “The drone's impact caused a fire that spread to explosive materials, leading to detonations.”

A state of emergency was declared the Ostrogozhsky district, while hundreds of residents were rushed from Soldatskoye village - about 50 miles west of Belgorod.

Temporary accommodation has been set up for displaced residents, reports say.

By my count, your Lev Golinkin list includes 78 Ukrainian WWII nationalists accused of wartime atrocities against Jews, Poles, Gypsies, Soviet POWs, Psychiatric patients, Communists and non-Nazi Ukrainian nationalists.
Golinkin is rightly outraged that these Ukrainians are now honored as freedom fighters with memorials in Ukraine.
His issues are not trivial, but they are sadly only part of much larger patterns:

together launched WWII:

1. World War II's overall death toll estimates are staggering:
   -- of the Soviet Union's 27 million deaths,
   about 7 million were Ukrainians and,
   of those, over 5 million were civilians,
   of whom about 1.5 million were Jews murdered at places like Babi Yar.

2. Ukraine's ~7 million dead were 16% of its population, a percentage only exceeded in Belarus (25%) and Poland (17%).
   Ukraine's circa 1.5 million Jewish Holocaust deaths were only exceeded by Poland's 3 million.

3. Tragically, in the larger WWII and 20th century picture, these are mere drops in a bloody bucket of deaths:
   75 million total WWII deaths, of whom 50 million were civilians and, of the 75 million total, 50 million died in the European theater.

4. In 1994, RJ Rummel's book "Death By Government" coined the term "democide" to mean genocides plus any mass deaths which result from government actions or inactions (i.e., forced famines).
   Rummel estimated total 20th century deaths from democide and wars at over 300 million, of whom ~40 million were military and ~260 million civilians.

5. Of 260 million total civilian democides, ~37 million (14%) died at the hands of fascist regimes like Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan and Nationalist China.

6. Of the 260 million civilian democides, ~150 million (58%) died from Communist regimes -- 95% of those in the USSR and PRC Communist China.

7. Democides in the USSR alone, from 1917 through 1987, were a staggering 62 million.
   Of those, Rummel charged:
   • 9 million to Vladimir Lenin
   • 40 million to Joseph Stalin
   • 13 million to Nikita Khruschev and Leonard Brezhnev.

   In other words, Stalin alone killed more civilians than allgedly "right wing" fascist Nazis, Japanese and Chinese Nationalists combined.
   And the Old Soviets' democide deaths were only ever exceeded by Mao's CCP-China.

8. Rummel's list of major 20th century democide countries is rather long and includes:
   • 77 million -- Communist CCP-China (1949-1987)
   • 62 million -- Communist USSR (1917-1987)
   • 21 million -- Nazi Germany (1933-1945)
   • 10 million -- Nationalist China (1925-1949)
   • 6 million -- Imperial Japan (1900-1945)
   • 2 million -- Ottoman Empire (~1917)
   • 2 million -- Communist Cambodia (1975-1979)
   • 1.7 million -- Communist Vietnam (1945-1987)
   • 1.5 million -- Communist Poland (1945-1987)
   • 1.5 million -- Communist North Korea (1948-1987)
   • 1.5 million -- Pakistan (Bangladesh, 1971)
   • 1.5 million -- Mexico (Porforiato 1900-1920)
   • 1.0 million -- Yugoslavia (1945-1987)
   • 1.0 million -- Russian Empire (1900-1917)

9. Rummel also estimated 50 million democides from "colonialism", though with no details to support this number, it likely includes some of those listed above.
   For example, India's WWII death toll is put at circa 3 million, which could either be counted as "war casualties" or charged as famine-democide to British "colonialism".

10. Some scholars have argued that Rummel overestimated total deaths, but Rummel himself said he'd more likely underestimated, and that the totals could be 400 million democides, not counting military deaths, in the 20th century.

Bottom Line: While Lenin and Stalin were responsible for more democides than anybody except the still-revered CCP Chairman Mao, there are still throughout Russia tens of thousands of memorials (plaques, statues, city, building & street names) to Lenin and hundreds more to Stalin, plus thousands including the words "Soviet" and "Communist".

And yet, pro-Russian propagandists tell us we must abandon Ukraine (and many other European countries) because some Ukrainian freedom fighters played parts in the democidal insanities which gripped the world during the 20th century.

Imho, it's analogous to saying we can never defend the United States because some of our Founders held slaves and some ancestors were less than Christian to Native Americans.
Such arguments are paths to political suicide, and effectively forbidden by the US Constitution "corruption of blood" clause.

Regardless, similar arguments worked for anti-warriors during the Vietnam War, so why not try them again?
