'We don't have mountain lion jail,' said Beth Pratt, the California regional executive director of the National Wildlife Federation. 'As much as it pains me, I think the officials made the right decision here.'

“Couldn’t relocate the lion had to kill it!! But that’s we what we do we destroy everything like a plague to make more room for more in the way people,” wrote another.
But experts said that the killing of the puma was likely the only responsible answer after the cat pounced on the young boy, who was in a designated picnic area with dozens of other people.
“It attacked a small child, and we were concerned if we didn’t remove the animal it may attack and possibly kill another child,” said Patrick Foy, a spokesperson for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Foy pointed to a deadly attack in 2004 when a mountain lion killed a mountain biker in Orange County, then attacked and nearly killed a woman hours later.

Foy also stressed that the attack was not the fault of the family or the child.
“There are people who say we moved into their habitat. Yes, that’s true, but a mountain lion that attacks a human … We don’t have mountain lion jail,” said Beth Pratt, the California regional executive director of the National Wildlife Federation. “As much as it pains me, I think the officials made the right decision here.”

Weird way to phrase it, but the fact that they had a photo of P-22 from 2014 and it stayed in the area after the attack means it was probably getting too old to hunt effectively, which led it to attacking the little boy.
getting a little tired of the “they were here first” mantra, which fairly echoes through the Florida air whenever an alligator eats someone.
Why not? The lion could be tried in one of your kangaroo courts! Free kitty now!
Me too, and that applies to wildlife attacking anyone anywhere, gators, bears, mountain lions, etc.
Dollars to donuts the kid was an anchor baby with brain-dead illegal-alien parents who were most likely partly responsible for the attack. Was the kid just injured or killed? Didn’t see that info in the article either. Article doesn’t provide one ounce of identifying data for the child or the parents. Means the “officials” are hiding something they just don’t want anyone to see.
California used to have a hunting season for mountain lions. Then some animal lovers got the hunting of mountain lions banned.
Now California has lots of them roaming around.
I raise goats. The lions kill them.
When I defend my goats I am arrested,
Because a GREAT MAN who is above raising goats,
Would be in need of Mountain Lions.
(From an old lament from the middle ages rewritten for mountain lions)
The reason they’re attacking little boys is because their dumbass parents don’t keep an eye on the kids and keep ‘em close!
If you go out into the woods, there are going to be predators of some kind.
These animals are not hunted in some states (they’re protected)! So they have no fear of humans!
You must have read a different article than I did.
Foy also stressed that the attack was not the fault of the family or the child...
...The 5-year-old was playing with other children close to his family’s picnic table when the puma attacked, according to officials with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The cat took the boy and might have dragged him off, but the child’s father grabbed the cat and fought him until he released the boy, a family member told KTLA.
Thanks to political correctness and the millions of illegals we have to make room for and kowtow to, who can't be bothered to watch over their children, and then do stupid things to endanger them.
One Puma is worth more than ten thousand of these vermin and their spawn.
I really do not know how to respond to such an idiotic statement. I am totally gobsmacked.
“The 5-year-old was playing with other children close to his family’s picnic table when the puma attacked,...”
Just how much closer did the children need to be? Maybe not playing at all.
You topped your last comment. I did not think that was possible but you did it.
We are land animals. We have as much right to be here as the cougar. The “we’re invading their space” only applies to sharks.
And since we were here first, why can’t we complain about Mexicans?
Didn't bother reading the article, did ya?
“That’s what happens when we are in their territory!”
We hear that all the time from libs in North Idaho about the white tail deer. The deer population is out of control and the libs bring that lame stupid argument out every time somebody suggests deer population control.
The deer have 1,100 square miles of National Forest right behind us to call home, but, no! They want to live where the people are.
Not so much where the people are as where the tasty gardens and rosebushes and such are. Those things are pretty scarce in most National Forests, other than a pot plantation here and there.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."
- Genesis 1:26-28 (kjv)
Anything that attacks and hurts or kills a child needs to be dispatched. That includes human predators; child molesters, rapists and kidnappers.
Maybe I should head north for deer season this year.
