NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Approximately 25 percent of sailors in the surface fleet have bought into the “Get Real Get Better” principles two years after the Navy issued its push to improve culture in the service, according to surface fleet leaders.
The rest know little about it, according to a survey of about 1,000 sailors that a San Diego-based command conducted among ship crews on the waterfront to gauge what they knew about the Navy’s initiative.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do to really drive this down to the deck plate and have it be truly a part of who we are as a culture,” Rear Adm. Randall Peck, the commander of Expeditionary Strike Group 3, told an audience earlier this month at the Surface Navy Association’s 2024 Waterfront Symposium.
“About 25 percent understand what ‘Get Real Get Better’ as a cultural initiative is and have bought into it. And sadly, there’s a whole lot of other people… [who said] I’ve heard of it, but I’m not a believer,’” Peck said.
Back in January 2022, then-Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday issued the call to bolster the Navy’s readiness and warfighting capability by creating and embracing a culture that empowers its leaders and sailors to self-assess and work through performance issues. His successor, Adm. Lisa Franchetti, “has doubled down on it because culture is the most important thing to us as a Navy,” Peck said.

Agree
LGBTQ+ and transgenderism, and from the Cultural Marxism of White Privilege and Critical Race Theory......
It didn’t come about by accident it’s the work of the enemy within.
It’s everything the democrat party stands for.
“”because culture is the most important thing to us as a Navy,” Peck said.””
If that’s really the way he feels, he’s in the wrong country!!
Expeditionary - they’ll take the Marines to anywhere they need to go to put out fires in the world...let’s see how the Marines take to that attitude!!!!!
Looks like the corporate jargon BS training slides I was forced to sit through at my previous job

Yeah, I recognize it too. This stuff has been coming out of MBA programs since forever: Continuous Improvement, DMAIC, Plan Do Check Act, Total Quality Management, Six Sigma, etc.
This looks like more of the same, just dumbed down a bit.
“by creating and embracing a culture that empowers its leaders and sailors to self-assess and work through performance issues”
When the new culture is one to turn the military in to a LGBTQWTF support group don’t be surprised when sailors do that rather than focus on maintaining ships. If my ship is on fire as a DC tech now I would have to make sure I don’t misgender a fire hose before I actually put out a fire.
“”A cute, catchy little jingle to make it sound like they’re doing something to fix a problem.””
That DOES seem to be the idea. I don’t know HOW the country ever got to this place..
I’m sure sailors and marines go on liberty to the same places in San Diego...imagine sailors trying to convince marines they have the wrong attitude!!!

I don’t know but come eat at our chow hall.
I remember when they tried to apply Demmings principals to quantify Navy performance....what a C>F> that was.... lots of training and lip service...absolutely NO IMPROVEMENT... some one needed to justify their existence.
I’m sure admiral lisa will shape thngs up. /s Really?

Wokeness is going to get us all killed.
That go slow to go fast was a huge messy mass of BS. One of the silliest things I ever heard. Some dolt brought it to one of the drill ships. It didn’t do any good. The best thing is, If you can’t get the job done you can’t stay. Next chopper or boat to the beach and home for you.
You ALL are deserving of OUR THANKS so HUGE THANK YOU!!!
I will be the last on both sides of my family to serve in the military: a grandfather in WWI, my father and stepfather in WWII, and I served from 76-84. I now have a 14 year old grandson, his stepfather (a former Marine) and I both agree to keep him away from the military’s clutches.
Yup. Back in the day these parasite consultants were thick as fleas, sucking blood from the fat bureaucracy. We called them “the beltway bandits.” By now it’s only gotten worse.
If you are a boss or have been one that hires these charlatan's you should be fired because you don't have enough sense or energy to do your own damn job and lead your people!
How about "Become a disciplined fighting machine!"

When I was in the Navy I never heard the word 'culture'. Not once. All that mattered was competence and performance.
I hereby nominate your comment for the Best Post of the Day!
“Get Real Get Better” WTF?
"Assess and Improve" rephrased to appeal to young people? It does sound silly.
No thanks.
As an aside, I was going to join the Navy but they didn’t have any positions for “land guy.”
