One of the few things we are opposites in, I have no taste for chocolate. It would look pretty though.
Have fun at the fair. Hope you get some ribbons. Labor Day is always a labor day around here. Hubby cutting grass, and I am weedwhacking and clearing out the garden . About 10 pepper plants left, some herbs and two sabre tomato plants, still green and growing with about a dozen fruit still to halfway ripen at least before I bring them in. We have lots of little jobs lined up this week now that the weather is cooler. The canning kettles go to the downstairs pantry today we are DONE!!!
It turns out that if you are in the sun, “refreshing” doesn’t happen ... I am a sweated up mess already!
Of course, I have gotten side-tracked yet again. I moved the Predator “ portable” generator to my new shelves - it is SO stinkin’ heavy, I can barely lug it. I put it near the supports, on a board, but eventually, it’s going to break down that area of the shelf.
My cousin, when he cleaned out the pole shed, saved me some sort of old board thing - looks like maybe an old countertop or something like that. It is solid & very heavy 5’ x 30”.
I dug around in the rubble pile & found some “half” cinder block type things - 16” long & 4” tall. I had to climb over part of the rubble pile, trying to avoid some tree with sharp thorns (it’s going bye bye this winter when the leaves are off & snakes hibernating) & that gave me 10 blocks. I spotted 2 more under a large pile of slate shingles, so I carefully moved the shingles & had to use a crow bar to get the blocks out of the ground. I now have two pylons 12” tall to set my heavy ‘whatever-it-is” on. It will be perfect to hold the generator, my fence pounders, & other heavy stuff. Hopefully, my handcart will tote it from the barn to the shop .... will find out after I drink a quart of electrolytes.
The positive side of messing around with this unexpected project all morning: the grass has had time to pretty much dry due to the sunshine & a nice breeze.
As for the mulch, I am so screwed! The last thing I had to put on the trailer to bring up here was my large shovel - didn’t do it. All I have is this little mini shovel. It looks like I will be hand scooping mulch in a 5 gallon bucket to dump over the side of the trailer into my Gorilla Cart for transport to where I want it. The GC does “dump” so thank goodness I brought it. I am going to be hating mulch by the time I get it cleared off the trailer.
Got most of the wrinkles out of the tunnel film yesterday and that’s good enough.
Pulled out all the automation stuff from the house, mostly in the seed room. All of it will be set up down in the shed by the tunnel or in the tunnel. Industrial PC, touchscreen, network switch, power supplies and control modules and a whole bunch of cables/wires.
I’m leaving one controller up here for my red LED morning coffee light, seed room temperature sensor, seed room window actuator and grow lights.
Made three water runs. First two put 200 gallons in each IBC tank, one here by the house and one near the tunnel. Third is for the house. The one near the house will be going down to the tunnel before too long.
Front yard garden of maters/peppers is about done. Mater plants are browning and remaining peppers are tiny. Front yard garden will be no more after this year.
Took a few weeks off from spending on the tunnel but it’s about time to get back to it.
Was just wondering when you start feeding your Thankgiving cactus and what do you use? I have Miracid, Bloom booster and regular Miracle Gro.
I feed her all season long with a half-strength Miracle Gro or Tiger Bloom, though any of those that you have on hand will work fine; just mix it half strength and start now if you haven’t been fertilizing.
What triggers her into blooming is the change in daylight from Summer into Fall, but I keep her healthy and happy until then. It’s the angle of the Sun, mostly. She’s in the same south-facing window all year ‘round.
I DO make sure to turn her 1/4 turn each week when I’m watering. So far, so good - and I’ve had ‘Miss Peach’ for more than a decade, now.
Pastel Mints? Twizzlers? Circus Peanuts? The choices are endless. :)

I used to work with a woman who had a sister that was as nutty as she was! If one or the other was away from her home for a day, a weekend, a week - the other would fill the yard with plastic Pink Flamingos!
Some of the ideas were pretty creative; your ‘Santa Sleigh’ reminded me of that. In one round of their on-going battle, it was Santa and his Sleigh pulled by Flamingos on the roof, LOL!
(This was in Wisconsin; no native Flamingos around here!)
I am late late late to the thread, but I have to concur on the fact that plants and flowers and trees and fruits and vegetables miraculously grow from little seeds.
Do you remember in the Spring when I asked about planting some baby potatoes that had started wrinkling and sprouting? You encouraged me to go for it.
Well, there were four at the beginning, but after I planted them, only 3 produced foliage. But then those three became sprawling all over my herb garden.
Last week they started looking like they were dying. I figured this morning it was now or never.
I dug in my little pail. I found one! Then another! Then another!
I had the most fun of my life harvesting those silly baby potatoes. Out of 3 potatoes, I got 25 decent sized ones and then 6 that were quite small. How much fun!
Beginner’s luck, I know, but that was so much fun learning that I hadn’t messed up. I will definitely try this again with any potatoes. I’m hooked.
I never understood why people liked the Fall until I moved to the Midwest. I’ve aways loved Spring growing up in Florida. Then I moved to the Midwest in the late late 80’s. We raised our kids in Columbus (Ohio). Fall became a fun season.
I’ve always been a college football fan, and that has only grown over the years. I collect teams I think. I am thrilled to learn that there will be college football to watch until late January next year. After football is over, I move towards hockey and then soccer until football starts the cycle over again.
Chocolate No-Bake Cheesecake Bars
For unrepentant chocoholics only. Easy, rich, creamy, decadent, loaded with chocolate.
Ing 18 Oreo cookies ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted 1 tbl dk chocolate, melted 4 oz bar cr/cheese, softened 8 oz dk chocolate, chopped ¾ cup h/cream 1 tbl Baileys Irish Cream or Kahlua, optional ½ tsp salt recommended ½ cup mini semi-sweet choc/chips
Instructions Foil 9×9" pan; spray; set aside. Processor Oreos on high to fine crumbs; set aside. Microwave butter, 1 tbl chocolate, and heat on high til melted and stirs smooth. Pour chocolate/butter into processor, process on high to incorporat. Turn crumb mixture into prepared pan, and hard-pack to form and even flat crust layer; set aside.
To a large mixing bowl, add the cream cheese, and beat with a handheld electric mixer on high speed until fluffy; set aside. To a separate, large, microwave-safe bowl, add the 8 ounces chopped chocolate, heavy cream, and heat in 30-second increments until the chocolate has melted and can be stirred smooth into the cream and mixture is silky, 90 sec total. Transfer to bowl with cream cheese and beat on high til smooth and combined. Optionally add liquor and/or salt.
Evenly spread over the crust. Evenly sprinkle w/ mini choc/chips; refrigerate 3 hours, or overnight or a few days in advance, before slicing and serving. After the 3-hour point when dessert is well chilled, foil over w/ dessert in the fridge; there will be some heat which will create condensation so don’t cover it til it’s sufficiently chilled.
Notes Keeps 10 days in fridge; but store and consume for as long as you’re comfortable.

Eating a pan-full in 15 or 20 minutes sounds about right.
No worries - got everything moved. I had brought the ramp that was from the house to the front porch - a 4-5 inch drop/rise so we could wheel dad out of the house, then across rhe porch to the big ramp over the steps. There is NO way I could have gotten that super heavy hunk of wood into the shop without that ramp. The weight of the big piece was right at my limit - my back was ‘talking’ to me, arms sore. I decided to ride the rest of the day instead of dealing with mulch & risking back spasms, so I got the place mowed.
This morning, it’s 55°, feels like 54°. Winds 5-10 mph, highs into low 70’s. A fall-like day. My work site is in the sun, but I think it will be cool enough that I can tolerate the sun. I am curious to see if what I envision for that spot will match reality when the work is finished.
