As someone who was eating a relatively balanced diet, I recently had open heart surgery, not due to lifestyle choices, I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve that required surgery, which 80% of the people with my condition also have to undergo surgery.
During the lead up to the surgery, I found out my cholesterol and coronary arteries were all excellent, in addition while in the hospital, I was told my blood tests were all excellent and I was not pre-diabetic and showed no signs of becoming one.
Given all that, I am undergoing a complete evaluation of my current diet and trying to introduce even more things that lead to a healthier lifestyle.
The SDA dilemma. Most don’t “party” and are vegetarian.
A moderate life is the key, such as not being up at 330MST to post threads.

I don’t think it is passing on energy drinks that has made the city a blue zone. It is a center of Seventh Day Adventism and, per wikipedia:
“The city strictly controls the sale of alcohol and has banned public smoking. The church-owned grocery store does not sell meat.”
“1. Energy drinks can disrupt your sleep and your appetite
2. Energy drinks can spike blood sugar and increase inflammation
3. Energy drinks can affect your physical and mental health”
In a previously life I was an ice hockey coach. At the beginning of the season, I outlawed energy drinks from the locker room. I received more pushback from parents on this then I ever imagined. I had players who were grouchy, whiny and running around like chickens with their heads cut off. They couldn’t maintain focus on the ice and when hit with adversity (my drills always were complex and meant for the players to think) they would shut down.
I even suspended two players because they broke my rules and actually tried to hide their energy drinks in water bottles. The parents tried to get rid of me as the teams coach. It was only after I suspended my own son for a game that the parents knew I meant business. And my son was team captain.
Energy drinks aren’t good nor do they have any redeeming value, especially for kids. On a good note, the minute the parents bought in and the players bought into the no energy drink policy, they started to play better hockey. They were more focused and less stressed. So much so that we won a state championship.
Needless to say, today, my son coaches a hockey team in the same league and he implemented a no energy drink policy. Best thing was he thanked me for doing what I did.
Loma Linda is the Rome of Seventh Day Adventists.
No alcohol vegetarian I think even vegan.
Nice grey looking people.
Loma Linda is where around half of the residents are Seventh day Adventists. Many follow the Edenic Diet, or at least vegetarian and keep the Bible Sabbath, God’s answer to stress.
Loma Linda Adventist Medical School is world renown, and so is the Hospital.
Thanks for posting!!
I’ve never had an “energy drink” in my life. They’re just loaded full of sugar and caffeine aren’t they?
A few years ago I had a heart check. As I recall, it is the scan where they look for calcium as an indicator of coronary artery blockage. Before testing I was told there is a scale, and if your indicator is >= 400 you need to make significant changes
After testing the tech emerged saying, “well, you didn’t get a zero ... you got a one. What ever you are doing, keep on doing it!” I replied, “Thanks, I’m going to Five Guys.”
If God didn’t make it don’t consume it
“I’m from a Blue Zone where people often live 10 years longer than average”
Reporter: “Math is hard”. The bottom line is Blue Zone, Red Zone, Green Zone, Pink Zone, doesn’t matter. Often people will live 10 years longer than average, and likewise, often people will live 10 years shorter than average. That’s why it’s called AVERAGE.
My father grew up in Loma Linda. His family was originally Seventh Day Baptist, but he eventually became a Methodist.
I believe she’s talking about the energy drinks that are full of sugar and caffeine.
The best way to stay healthy is to eat real food. Always choose mother nature over man made. If you must have breads, pastas and sweets, make it yourself from clean, non-GMO ingredients.
Man made, processed foods and seed oils are a ticket to metabolic syndrome, increased cancer risk and early death. It is that simple. Our food supply is killing us.
Convenience stores like Buc-Ees and others WIDELY increased the ease of access to the “new health foods” in the 80’s and people have been getting fatter and more diabetic ever since.
After you eat this crap and get fat, you go to the Doctor and get on meds for metabolic syndrome. They steer you to AHA and ADA diets that encourage you to keep eating carbs and processed foods (instead of protein and fat) which only lead you to need more meds. Even the food pyramid directs you to eat more foods that caused your problems to begin with. Absolute insanity.
CNBC? No thanks!
