‘This was a coup.’ Trump primes supporters to challenge a Harris win.

From the moment Vice President Kamala Harris emerged as the surprise Democratic presidential nominee, former president Donald Trump began arguing that she was anointed through a “coup” rather than chosen by primary voters. After barely mentioning election integrity at the Republican convention in July, Trump is now casting the upcoming election as “rigged” against him and baselessly labeling any hurdle in his path as election interference.

“This was an overthrow of a president. This was an overthrow,” Trump said at a rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on Saturday, referring to Harris replacing Biden on the ticket. He later added: “They deposed a president. It was a coup of a president. This was a coup.”

Trump’s efforts to undermine confidence in this year’s election are reminiscent of the tactics he used in the 2020 campaign and indicate how he could again seek to delegitimize the results if he loses, setting the stage for another combustible fight over the presidency, election and national security experts said.

“This is Donald Trump’s playbook: ‘There’s a deep state, they’re all out to get me,’” said Elizabeth Neumann, who served as a senior Department of Homeland Security official during the Trump administration and is now among his conservative critics. “Even here — as he’s going to have to face a stronger, harder candidate to defeat — his default is, ‘Well, this couldn’t possibly be legal. This is a coup. This is wrong,’ even though there are no facts to back that up.”

While some of this is “just for show,” Neumann said, Trump and his allies are also setting up the “next version of ‘Stop the Steal.’”

He’s been saying it since the 2020 steal. Where have you been?

My comment was directed at Trump not immediately pouncing when biden was deposed. Instead we had ~two weeks of name calling and campaign statements sounding as if biden was still in the race.

You give this link: https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2024-08-19/pelosi-biden-ouster-dnc-election

Paywalled for me, but I’ve read stuff elsewhere. Pelosi, as one member (one very influential member) of the Democratic Party, thought that someone other than Biden should be the nominee. She used her influence, in perfectly legal ways, to make that happen.

Some RINOs probably considered Trump’s nomination in 2016 to be a “coup” because they didn’t like him. Too bad, RINOs. Trump 2016 and Harris 2024 were both nominated in accordance with the law and the party rules.

A coup of sorts but within the Democrat party and causing no harm to the country. Voters have choices other than voting for the Democrat nominee.

I know of two. The coup d’etat of 2020. And this soft coup that got Biden out of the running.

What other two do you know of?

Biden could have given his resignation at the DNC and endorse Kamala on the spot. Instead we have a letter of questionable origin and Biden slinking off to an extended beach vacation. Who is Commanderin Chief in the interim..Who knows?

The first was Watergate.... I urge everyone to read the book Silent Coup by Len Colodny. There is plenty of information about the book and other Watergate issues at www.watergate.com. Related to this, Tucker did an excellent interview of Geoff Shepard a few weeks ago. Shepard was part of Nixon’s counsel and he was adamant that it was a coup... that was always what I believed it to be. This is a 2 hr and 20 minute interview.... well worth the time. https://x.com/TuckerCarlson/status/1821593377164419377?mx=2

Lastly, I never believed that Maobama was eligible to run for president..... if he didn’t meet the eligibility requirements, it was a coup.

Those two plus the two you mentioned makes four. The only question is whether there were others as well....

Watergate. Yes indeed. That was an orchestrated move by swamp rats from within his own party. I believe history has now vindicated Nixon.

Obama? If this can be labeled as a coup, then I would call it an approved coup. 226 legal challenges to his eligibility. None had standing.

Others as well? How about an obstructive coup? Think about how hamstrung President Trump was and how his great abilities were reduced as he fought off the Russian Collusion smear tactics, the man made Covid crises, the orchestrated 2020 riots, a bogus impeachment charge and many other obstacles.
