“Many of the same politicians who now publicly embrace Trump privately dread him,” Nikki Haley said in February. “They know what a disaster he’s been and will continue to be for our party. They’re just too afraid to say it out loud. Well, I’m not afraid to say the hard truth out loud. I feel no need to kiss the ring.”
Yet there Haley was at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, kissing the ring. “President Trump asked me to speak to this convention in the name of unity,” she said. “I’ll start by making one thing perfectly clear: Donald Trump has my strong endorsement, period.”
Today’s Republican Party is what political scientists call a “personalist” party: It is built around a person, not an agenda or a coalition. The party is co-chaired by Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump. Dissidents like Liz Cheney and Chris Christie and Adam Kinzinger and even former Vice President Mike Pence have been exiled.
The Democratic Party has proved itself anything but a personalist party. Its convention this week will reflect a historic, collective act: the party’s mobilization to persuade its leader, Joe Biden, to step aside.
How have the two parties come to be such perfect opposites, photo negatives of each other? One reason predates Trump. The other reason is Trump.
There is a contradiction at the heart of the Republican Party that does not exist at the heart of the Democratic Party. Democrats are united in their belief that the government can, and should, act on behalf of the public. To be on the party’s far left is to believe the government should do much more. To be among its moderates is to believe it should do somewhat more...

My question too; what is wrong with shrinking and hamstringing the government?
You lost, Nikki. Sit down and shut up now.
How many multi-million dollar businesses did The Arkansas Traveler ever create?
Last time I watched any RATvention the RATs booted God off their platform.
Trump is nothing like Bill Clinton.
“I’m not going to champion him as some rock-ribbed conservative that he’s never been and doesn’t pretend to be.”
No one’s asking you to. In order to get elected he has to appeal to more than “rock-ribbed conservatives” who make up 5-10% of the electorate.
Anti-Trump trolls like you always use the same tired old straw man argument -that Trump is not a conservative.
You don’t hear REAL conservatives complaining about that - we just want to see someone who is not a globalist get elected for a change - and so we aren’t going to hold his feet to the fire.
It’s always the Trump-hating fake conservatives who complain about Trump not being conservative enough. You aren’t fooling anyone.
The lefties who are eager to see the back of Trump because they think the current GOP is just a “personality cult” are sure going to be surprised when J.D. or Vivek or DeSantis or several other viable choices take up the MAGA mantel. We’re not going back to the old RINO, globalist establishment. If the GOP tries it, the party will die and eventually be replaced with something else.
The left makes the mistake in thinking the current GOP is the Trump party; it is the party of the base voters now and Trump is just our representative and agent of change. There’s going to be some wailing and gnashing of teeth once they realize “MAGA” is here to stay long after Trump.
In other words, derelicts and losers.
Because after your work doing that is finished, you are powerless against the bolshevik insurgency washing over this country.
So the US feral government is fighting "against the bolshevik insurgency washing over this country?"
A Pitiful party
I never said I wanted THIS government to be strong.
You are going to wind up with a strong government. You have to make up your mind what you want that strong government to DO.
I already said that once.
I want it limited to its connotationally enumerated powers.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_One_of_the_United_States_Constitution#Section_8
constitutionally.
Your limited government is teetering on the edge of falling to Bolshevism.
When it falls, what will you say?
Evidently you haven’t noticed, but the current US feral government is not limited by anything. They do whatever they want. They selectively enforce laws. The rule of law is a joke to them.
The government IS the Bolshevik insurgency washing over this country.
The democrat party has no heart, it only has power and it intends to hold on to it by any means necessary.
Individuals have hearts...
Collectives have no pity!
Your limited government is teetering on the edge of falling to Bolshevism.
When it falls, what will you say?
Me? Under arrest?
Why? What for?
There must be some mistake!!!
Or greet them in the hall with a bullet.
You will go down but at least there will be fewer of them to arrest others!!!
“ The government IS the Bolshevik insurgency washing over this country.”
Correct.
