FLASHBACK: Resurfaced Video Shows Police Shooting Paintballs At Residents During Tim Walz’s Curfew Enforcement
Daily Caller ^

A video from Minneapolis resurfaced Tuesday, showing law enforcement officers enforcing a curfew in 2020 by firing paintballs at residents in their own homes.

The enforcement action occurred in the days following the imposition of a stringent curfew by Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, aimed at quelling the violent unrest sparked by George Floyd’s death. The video shows officers aggressively shouting for residents to enter their homes, with one officer heard giving the command to “light ’em up!” before residents were pelted with paintballs.

You’re right. And it’s particularly true at the federal level. “I am a federal employee.” “You are on federal property.” Etc.

They throw the word “federal” around like it’s some sort of all-powerful, magical word.

It’s also not supposed to be a lifelong thing or the fast track to personal wealth, both of which it seems nearly every member of Congress achieves.

> Cops need night sticks and black jacks <

I don’t know about blackjacks. But the Rodney King incident caused many police departments to stop carrying nightsticks. That was a mistake. A nightstick can be an effective tool if used the right way (as a prod or as a lever).

Anyway, I’m disturbed that the police in that video so readily followed Walz’s orders - see my post #17. I would also say that, based on my experience, most cops are okay. Professional enough.

But perhaps 15% are no good. They have ego and/or escalation problems. That number might seem low, but it’s actually way too high. Would you go to a dental practice where 15% of the staff there deliberately do a bad job, and make your dental problems worse?

I don’t know how to fix this. We, of course, want nothing but high quality people as police officers. But these days the deck is stacked against them.

100% of the cops in that confrontation had no problem obeying the order or letting others among them do so.

Yes. And as I noted earlier, that really disturbs me. I’m guessing that some of the cops there really enjoyed shooting paint balls at citizens. But I’m hoping that most of them were just following orders.

But the Nuremberg trials taught us that “just following orders” is not an excuse for doing vile things! The cops in that video should be ashamed of themselves. But unfortunately, they probably aren’t.

That defense didn’t work very well at Nuremburg, did it?

How about this instead (to Walz and to that mayor): “Sorry sir, but that’s not a lawful order.”

Yeah, that sure would be nice alright. But, you know, back here on Planet Earth, that's never going to effin' happen. Plan accordingly.

As it is, my concern is less with a dime-a-dozen Leftist @sshole like Walz than it is with the people of Minnesota themselves. After all, they elected Walz to high office, did they not?

I'm coming to a better appreciation, I must say, why my Southern ancestors came to the realization, back in the mid-19th century, that they really didn't wish to share a country with people of this ilk.

I am not sure how Kamala and this clown have any chance. The fraud machine better have been tuned up and supercharged- theyre going to need it.

I’m guessing Kamala and the Clown have at least a 50-50 chance. 🙁

There’s the fraud machine, as you noted. I also expect a later October “surprise”. Something bad (and totally false) will surface about Trump. The media will harp on it day and night. That will move the needle.

I say that not to be a pessimist. Instead I say it to emphasize nothing can taken for granted. Remind your conservative and independent friends just how important this election is. It’s Trump or bust for the country.

What are the 85% of "good cops" doing to purge their ranks of the 15% of tyrant thugs?

The answer to that is "not enough". Their inaction is a direct cause of the current widespread anti-police sentiment among We the People.

And a huge fraction of people on this forum would damn you as a "cop killer"; it would be worse among the general population. It's weird ... even among people who dislike the police, the idiotic phrase "cop killer" still carries weight.

> What are the 85% of “good cops” doing to purge their ranks of the 15% of tyrant thugs? <

That’s an excellent question. The good cops look the other way. They stay silent. That’s obviously not acceptable.

I suppose it can be explained by their unhealthy “brothers in blue” mentality. Plus there’s the Frank Serpico story. As you might know, Serpico was an NYPD whistleblower who got himself shot for his honesty.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Serpico#Shooting_and_public_interest

So I think the best hope for reform has to come from outside the police - mayors who are bold and aware, but not leftist crazy. Do such mayors even exist?

And one more thing. You mentioned widespread anti-police sentiment. That sentiment was of course always present among the criminal class.

But now we’re seeing it among conservatives. And I include myself there. I’ve gone from being reflexively pro-police to someone who can no longer give cops the benefit of the doubt.

Something has changed. And I don’t think it was me. The “peace officers” of my youth are now “law enforcement officers”. From peace to enforcement. Not a good thing.

I wouldn’t fuss so much if we were talking about, say, plumbers. But bad times are ahead. Anyone can see that. We need the police to be on the right side of things.

The problem is that despite many of us FOR YEARS telling people that cops care about their PENSIONS first and the citizens last, most don’t seem to understand till a paintball hits them in the face...
