How Kamala Harris Is Already Changing the Face of Presidential Power
The New York Times ^ | Aug. 11, 2024, 6:00 a.m. ET | Tressie McMillan Cottom

I have not been the biggest fan of Kamala Harris, but to my surprise, the candidate who underwhelmed in 2020 is gone. I have watched all of candidate Harris’s public appearances since becoming the presumptive Democratic nominee for a sense of how she intends to run and possibly govern. The audiences have been vastly different, among them: the annual conclave of Zeta Phi Beta sorority, a National Federation of Teachers convention and the Philadelphia rally where the Harris-Walz ticket made its first official appearance.

What I took away: Kamala Harris is a different candidate than we saw four years ago. She is even a different rhetorician than we saw six months ago.

Nominee Harris lands her applause lines. The former prosecutor is comfortable going on the attack. Her most consistent message is that Donald Trump wants to send America back to the Dark Ages. Unlike her predecessor, she relishes calling Trump out by name. Even her wacky humor, which has been mocked on social media, suddenly works. She sounds authentic. That’s the holy grail of electoral politics. Every wide-jawed cackle she offers the audience, every twinkle in her eye as she pokes at Trump — it all comes off as someone who is in on the joke. That is hard for any candidate but it is an almost impossible tightrope for a Black female candidate to walk.

I don't want a President who pursues "Presidential Power."

I want a President who pursues the interests of the American people he represents.

That's why constitutional representative republics have Presidents with limited terms, not Kings/Queens with lifetime gigs.

Sure am glad we get ever article from the NYT posted. I was worried that we would miss one.

To summarize every NYT article, all is lost, everyone loves Kamala it’s over.

Not hard to agree with the choice if you’re a black vagina, like the author. What’s to go wrong here?

Go rebury your head in the sand and pretend the enemy doesn’t exist.

The gaslighting continues at pace. Kamala is amazing, she’s so different than even a few months ago. They will say anything and everything to get her elected. they’re running the same playbook that they used for Biden. Getting her to debate is about the only way idiot americans will see her for what she is, a moron who has no business in the white house, except to clean the place after a party.

Go surrender to the nearest left winger. Honestly, after a while it gets tedious.

I get needing to know what the enemy is thinking, but all from ONE source? I know what the NYT thinks and publishes. What about some variety?

Maybe the job makes the person, as happened with a hack politician from Missouri who happened to be elevated to the Presidency in 1945, Harry S Truman, near the close of the Second World War. Thrust into the job, with ZERO preparation, and not a clue as to what FDR had been doing, Truman was forced to make momentous decisions with little of no background information, including the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan in August of 1945, which effectively ended the war against the last of the Axis powers, Imperial Japan.

Could anyone imagine that “Que mala” Harris, or “Gov’ner” Walz, would be capable of making such a decision?

Honestly, if you need these puff pieces written about you to seem ‘palatable’ its highly likely that you are NOT a candidate who best represents the WILL OF THE PEOPLE. #NYTPropaganda

RE: I want a President who pursues the interests of the American people he represents.

Yes. The only one I know of today is Donald Trump who had a beautiful wife and children and grandchildren, fame, popularity with Dem celebrities (Bill and Hillary at his wedding), a fabulous fortune, homes all over the place and his name on tall buildings.

To give that up to be hounded by critics, constantly hammered by lawfare, shot at in public and under strain in order to help the American people secure our free Republic——takes a good man.

Until I was well into adult life I never heard the libertarian point made about JFK’s inaugural speech.

If someone is asking what they can do for their country it means the government is all important and citizens are servants looking for things they can do for it.

Go surrender to the nearest left winger.

Simple thoughts for simple minds.

I think we should know what the enemy is up to so we can fight them.

You want to live in a little, insulated bubble where nothing you don't want to hear enters.

And you are such a simple-minded potato that you want to pretend wanting to know what the enemy is up to is "surrendering."

Kamala Harris isn’t qualified to take the oath of office of the President even if she should win the popular vote. She isn’t an Art. II, §1, Cl. 5 natural-born Citizen. And, no. The 14th Amendment doesn’t make her a natural Citizen.
