NASA astronauts stranded due to Boeing's faulty Starliner received horrifying news on Wednesday about their return mission to Earth.
Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore, who have already been trapped on the International Space Station (ISS) for more than two months, may not come back to Earth until February 2025.
The US space agency revealed a contingency plan that would launch a two-person crew on SpaceX's Crew-9 mission in September, but still wouldn't bring the crew home until months later.
The announcement is another highly embarrassing blow for the embattled Boeing, which is dealing with a spate of issues plaguing its commercial jets.

” Again IMHO, they really should swallow their pride and ask Elon Musk’s SpaceX for assistance.”
FYI, Quibbler. A rescue was scheduled for August but NASA was ready. Presently scheduled for Sept. 24 but maybe NASA knows they won’t be ready so we are being given the run-around.
Can’t they undock it, then have the undocker return to the space station via a space suit.
Or is there some other bonehead Boeing reason why not?
I'm sure they'll receive mail-in ballots.
That’s some hellacious OT.
Nelson’s appointment made political sense. He was an old friend of Biden from the Senate and would do nothing to disturb the cozy relationship between NASA and its well-paid contractors.
How about a classic vette?
I just re-watched that film again about two or three weeks ago. Still a good movie.
I hope they brought some books
“BREAKING NEWS, Astronauts trapped in space by Boeing’s faulty Starliner are given HORRIFYING news about potential return to Earth”
OMG!!! The idea that they’ll have to return in a 100% RUZZIAN reliable spacecraft (at least regarding the transportation of astronauts to/from Space Station).
Might as well strap a parachute, jump out, and roll the dice.
I wonder if NASA was ever that competent.
If you look at the Apollo programs, NASA simply coordinated what was the best and brightest of American industry, which came together to offer their collective skills to government.
Russua has what is needed to rescue them. Why not ask Vlad- he would be more than willing to help.
And there is no emergency manual override? Seems like they would want the ability to kick things like that off, jettison something dangerous.
Wonder how hard it would be to upload new software, or to have an astronaut on dock, and then conduct a short space walk to get back into the ISS?
I would like to see what NASA is paying Elon Musk’s Space X to send up people and supplies to the international space station vs. what NASA is paying Boeing to send up people and supplies to the international space station. I suspect the Space X flight is a bargain compared to what it is costing NASA for a Boeing rocket flight.
While Boeing continues to fail to resolve their problems, the mainstream media remains quiet as to all the mega successes of Elon’s Space X rockets.
Evidently there are two programs, one for manned and one for unmanned.

I hear Commie-La will do really interesting things to get a vote...or eliminate one.
Charlie dont surf, but do star travelers?
At the same time, the Mars helicopter was supposed to do something like four flights and ended up at 72.
My son is an engineer at NASA. The first job he had was as a data technician on a then 24 year old solar observation satellite. It launched the week he was born and was supposed to be a two-year mission.
It’s still transmitting data and images of the sun.
Likely the only reason he is still alive.
