Day #3 of the Top 50 songs on my iTunes playlist -- ranked in reverse order from #50 to #1 and presented here on a series of FR threads. I'm posting them here on a new thread that compiles the growing list one day at a time over the next couple of months. I only post them on weekdays and may miss a day or two here and there, so it will take at least ten weeks to do this.
And to show my gratitude to the FR management for giving us all a forum to post vanity threads like this, I'll be making a contribution for the current quarterly fundraiser. I would encourage everyone on these threads to do the same! :-)
Have fun with this, folks!
(One thing I noticed last week is that there was a tie at the end of the list for #50, so there will actually be 51 songs on 51 threads here.)
List to Date:
#50T -- "Solsbury Hill" by Peter Gabriel
#50T -- "Fly Over States" by Jason Aldean
#49 -- "Sara" by Fleetwood Mac
Pinging to those from the previous threads. Let me know if you’d like me to drop you from the ping list!
Play You’re So Vain.
Sara is the first one on your list that I’ve heard.
That one definitely ain’t on this list. LOL.
That’s interesting. I am sure there will be plenty more!
But, "Solsbury Hill" by Peter Gabriel behind "Sara"? I can't say what that makes me think......But, it is really, really bad. BAD. My neck hurts from shaking my head so much. :)
LOL. I think “Solsbury Hill” is the better song. These are ranked by the number of times they’ve been played in my iTunes apps over the years, the rankings aren’t necessarily indicative of which songs I like the best.
I think we should have a betting pool for what is #1. Some may be happy, but there will be many angry losers. And, if it is a Michael Jackson song at #1, I can’t imagine the horror of that. But, I am sure it would be “mostly peaceful”.
LOL. That’s not a bad idea. I can assure you that there is no Michael Jackson song at #1.
I saw Fleetwood Mac when Peter Green was with them in s small club around 1968. They were more of a pure blues band in those days. What a treat.
OK. But, I will continue to worry. Could it be worse? Jay-Z?
“Oh Well” was a great song from the Peter Green Fleetwood Mac days.
Anyway, I have five different versions of "Sara" in my library. There is the Tusk studio version but then I have some live versions as well as the 3/10/79 outtake version from the deluxe Tusk album.
At 9 plays, the studio version of "Sara" ranks pretty low in my playlist rankings but it's a song I gave a five star ranking to and it's been a part of my life for nearly 45 years now. There are a bunch of great tracks from Tush including "Angel", "Storms", "Sisters Of The Moon", "Think About Me", "I Know I'm Not Wrong" and the title track which was recorded live in a Southern California stadium complete with marching bands.
As I said, Tusk is my favorite FM album and they are one of artists that I collect pretty much everything they ever recorded.
Now looking to see what was #49 on my alltime most played list, it was "It's All You Can Do" by The Cars. This is from their 1979 Candy-O album. That song for me evokes hot summer nights, driving along the beach with the windows down, the smell of fried clams and salt water in the air.
“Oh Well” was a great Somg”
Yeah it was. That was one of the songs they played they played part 1 and 2. Along with albatross and Green Manalishi
Great post, and great song. I was too young to appreciate Candy-O when it was first released, but “It’s All I Can Do” was like a perfect introduction to the 1980s.
I’d have to say Heartbeat City was probably the best Cars LP. 1st Album comes in at #2 IMO
Very good. You’re one of the FR experts on this subject!

Thank you, sorry about the delayed response. I have had to put FR on hiatus. Watching the country disintegrate is stressful and free republic delivers new updates on that every five minutes so for my own sanity l am trying to step away from all of it for awhile.
