I have advocated for years that the definition of marriage be changed to include common-law, or non-religious arrangements.

If two people share a domicile for 180 days cumulative (You couldn’t move out for a week and move back in to restart the clock), they will be considered married by the state for taxation, community property, and child support purposes.

Any child or children born or adopted into this relationship are to be considered the responsibility of both parents for, patrimony, child support, alimony, and inheritance purposes.

This does not replace a religious ceremony but adapts secular law to reality as we see it.

Yep, I too remember there was a quiet bit of a stigma around divorce. I think there were two kids in my year being raised by single moms, and no bastards (that I knew of).

Notice the lowest rate of bastardy by far is in Muslim Turkey — 2.8%.

The French are a bit different. It is typical to live together and have children outside of a formal wedding. They are seen as being fully committed by their family and community.

Don’t know about the marriage characteristics of French foreigners. Don’t think that Muslims are excited by the prospect of having illegitimate relatives.

The United States is as bad as Europe, according to the National Center for Health Statistics "Percent of Babies Born to Unmarried Mothers by State".

Why bother posting when the graphic that is the point of the post is behind a paywall splash and can’t be read?

Ethics have replaced morals.

Ethics in its nuance meaning is the teaching of right and wrong, beauty and what’s ugly, based on man made philosophy, man made law, man made corporate and government policies.

Ethics degenerate into no more than a majority rule without any consideration to consistency, logic, nature, long term sustainability, or economic viability. It is full of contradictions/hypocrisy, irrational/illogical and unsustainable ideas which over time become more destructive socially.

Christianity, deontological/theological thought is based on a doctrine. There is an effort placed on consistency, since truth lies in consistency and they want to get to the truth. It is concerned with growth and survival, i.e. procreation... With ethics we could all go extinct tomorrow, and that’s okay, as long as we have a good time today. It is inherently hedonistic and short sighted.

Even if someone does not believe in God and organized religion, there should be the realization that this value system provides an enormous benefit over its ethical counterpart, a system of values we embrace today. That would actually be a “logical” conclusion. The fact that there are many that struggle so hard against Christianity is actually very telling about them.

There is usually an obvious reason (if you really get to know them) why they are rejecting a value system which has worked for 2,000 years and replacing it with climate change (their Apocalypse), evolution and a big bang (their Genesis), and LGBTQIAA+ and BLM (their ideas of standing up for basic human rights and being a good person). These people have something evil inside of them which they do not want to part with and instead would rather reject their cultural heritage and a value system which works. All of these people are consumed by either Pride, Envy, Wrath, Gluttony, Sloth, Greed or Lust which has become their god.

Do not let the “appearance” of success in college degrees, job titles, and material wealth fool you. These people are messed up.

The link worked for me when I posted it.

There was a follow on link posted which provides the same information.

Someone posted the map of the follow on link.

Why complain if the issue was addressed/fixed 2 ways?

We need to bring back the stigma of being a bastard.

Can you foresee any unintended consequences of this redefinition? E.g., any changes in behavior on the part of men and women which might arise as a result - in an effort to "skirt" falling under your new definition?

Regards,

That’s my point.

Culturally the West is all sort of one big clump.

We talk $hit about each other, pretend we’re different, but in reality we all head in the same direction may it be covid, Ukraine, climate change, electric cars, but also culturally may it be LGBTQIAA+, feminism, birth rates, abortion, births out of wedlock... Tattoos were really looked down upon years ago in many places, today in the West you’re lucky if you find someone under 30 without one, why?

The consequence of globalization. You have the political and economic leadership coordinating in places like Davos and with Bilderberg. You have international institutions like NATO. The harmonization of laws and policies in order to accommodate trade. And most importantly, a media that is shared, may it be the news, movies, music.

Mrs. Gitmo and I have been married 52 years. I retired two years ago, and I'm with her more than ever before.

I've started to notice little things that are making me SUSPICIOUS.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not sure yet. But I'm seeing things that are making me suspect she might be the one.

The far left has taken over those channels of communications and culture which define us, spread culture, and self perpetuate.

—Education (Grade school through college)
—News (~80% pro liberal bias)
—Hollywood (Movies and TV)
—Music

Unless the conservative message regains a foothold in these areas, it will simply be a never ending slide into further far left ideology for our society.

Another development is the Euro style conservative. Today, we have a lot of people who even consider themselves conservative, but they are all about centralization of power, big government and its control over people.

We have different names for these folks, RINO’s, NeoCons, but they are essentially a liberal that may have a slight conservative view regards some basic Constitutional rights like the second amendment, abortion, or guns, religious freedom, they may even be slightly religious.

BUT they are in all reality all about big government. Their hot topic issues are the border, terrorism, and national defense, just like the liberal uses climate change, social justice in its various forms as their battle cry for ever expanding government powers / budgets and the corresponding shrinking of the free citizen.

These new so-called conservatives care about the US Constitution as much as their far left liberal peers do, i.e. George W. Bush and his Patriot Act (talk about the definition of an oxymoron). The late McCain, Lindsey Grahm, G. Bush, McConnell... a long list of these folks. They will poo all over the Bill of Rights and bring home the bacon, just as much as the furthest leftist will, in fact they may even collaborate with the left in pursuit of mutual economic and political interests, see Ukraine as an example.

Every so called action to protect women, children, etc. undermines the family and threatens the role of the father / husband / provider.

As the liberal agenda proceeds, marriage becomes a threat to men, i.e. child support, alimony, courts dividing the property... As the liberal agenda rolls on, men are emasculated in their roles protecting / defending and leading the family (a court overrides the father and decides the kid gets a vaccine etc.).

For a young man today, marriage means risks and costs that are substantially less if you simply choose to live together and have children out of wedlock.

In fact, in many cases, if you marry the benefits and entitlements by state and federal government are diminished and if you stay unwed, the wife and child is entitled to more benefits. These benefits may include food, housing, medical care, or even financial assistance or an income tax credit (getting more back than paid in).

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

People are essentially rational and act in their best self interest.

We (Society) has simply incentivized not getting married and burdened marriage with risks.

I'd like to see this 'data' broken apart - showing the rates in different subgroups - race, if you will.

Religion - age...
