That was nice! An old black & white beer commercial, where everybody sings. It sounded like a barbershop quartet in the background. The Jingle is quick and easy to remember, would have been great for radio play. “Mabel” looked like a young Doris Day.

Drank The Bull as a teen. Polished off a 12 of 16oz on a pretty regular basis. Switched to Blatz Light Cream Ale at some point. Beer free for 4+ years now and 55 lbs lighter p

A friend of mine had a Primo pork-pie hat back in the day. Maybe it’s worth something now.

Another friend had a thing for “Schlitz Malt Talls.” Ugh.

Schlitz is the brand that made diet beer mainstream in the 70’s, with Lee Marvin being paid to say two words; Schlitz Lite.

I worked as a sales clerk at a 7/11 south of Houston in 1975-77. I was only 16, barely drinking ANY beer…. But I can tell you: at first, 90% of our beer sales were Schlitz.

It started to change when Coors rolled in. They became the “cool” new thing. Then, Miller Lite. Before long, Schlitz just sat in our coolers… unsold. I never understood WHY? But, I saw it happen.

One reason for its demise was that women could not drink it at beach parties. They kept getting sand in their Schlitz.

My uncle’s all drank Schlitz beer.

Didn’t Schlitz invent the Tall Boy?

I was on a carpentry work crew just out of high school and for lunch we’d go to the Fairfax Deli in Falls Church Virginia and get a 3-foot Italian hoagie and each of us four would get a Tall Boy and we split the hoagie up. Back then a 3-ft italian hoagie at the Fairfax Deli in Falls Church cost a whopping 3 bucks. After lunch we go back to the job site and continue swinging hammers for the rest of the afternoon.

Life was simpler then...

If you are ever in San Juan, be sure to take the Casa Bacardi distillery tour in nearby Bayamon. You get two vouchers when entering which entitle you to as many rum cocktails served afterward at an outside pavilion. I have never tasted any rum drink nearly as good as they make them there.
