I have recently become aware of a new shift in acceptable language. It happened at the assisted-living apartment where a loved one lives. I was trying to describe a specific maintenance worker who I’ve contacted before and was quickly corrected in the tersest manner by black aids that he was “African American.”
Wasn’t “Black lives matter” just a thing a few hours ago?

Use of the phrase “colored people” = hate crime.
Use of the phrase “people of color” = perfectly acceptable.

The progressive word Black is intended to unite what is in fact a very diverse Afro Heritage population.

The funny part is the reaction to that word. I was raised in the Deep South. There were signs in some places for white and colored. We really didn’t use that “N” word. Frankly, we didn’t talk about them much at all. It was blacks calling each other “nigga”. They make such a big deal out of it, and constantly use it themselves. It is almost hilarious. What do they want to be called this year?
“POCs” is likely this month’s preferred description. Thinking that comeala is an “AWOC”. (Angry Woman Of Color). Adding b the “ OC” I guess is okay. 😵

Exactly what I thought. No matter what phrase I used, I would be guilty... of .... something.
The thing is that THEY are the employees hired to serve the residents. I'm not saying that that gives the residents and their loved ones carte blanche to be abusing, but using a term that was perfectly acceptable the day before yesterday is the furthest thing from abusing.
We're looking to move him to another facility. Unfortunately, those brand of "blacks" infest the lower rungs of the health care industry.
Is that why the colored criminals are never described as such by news outlets and law enforcement?
Why is it an issue? Why do people work so hard to make sure a particular race is okay? If a race is so spectacular and gifted, why can’t it just not stand on its own? Better yet, where is the historical record proving ingenuity and brilliance?
I try to treat people as they are not as I think they should be!!
There are other words far worse than “black”.
