Meal Kit Ratings: Which have you tried and prefer?
self | 07/19/2024 | FWDude

I've tried probably half a dozen or more food kit subscriptions. I have an active lifestyle and find that supplementing at least a few of the meals during the week is well-served by these resources.

Which have you tried? Which did you really like and didn't like? Which seemed like the best value? Which ones do you share their ideology with?

Personally, the first I tried was Blue Apron and it remains my favorite. Though it's become a little pricey (like everything else) the value seemed to be superior as well as their service. Recipes were always unique and something I would never have thought to try on my own. They introduced me to finger limes. Wish I could find them here.

There are several good ones on Amazon like Augason Farms, but canned goods themselves will actually last several years if you store them in stable environments.

I like Blue Apron too.

When I lived in San Jose, Ca, the local Whole Foods carried Amazon Meal Kits and they were fantastic! I figured out how to copy some of the dishes, and I still make them. Unfortunately, the local Whole Foods in Fayetteville, Ar does not carry them.

This stuff is delicious when tarted up with a bit
of broccoli and a can of tuna or chicken.

I’ve noticed a lot of the higher-end grocers getting into the food kit craze. H-E-B here in Texas is one.

We tried Blue Apron for about a year and really enjoyed it at the beginning. Then the packages would arrive on the wrong day, or not packed with proper insulation and materials, and the food spoiled. Getting a refund only helped a little. After several months, we decided it wasn’t our thing anymore. This was years ago.

Their menus at first were pretty creative. Then it seemed less so. I do appreciate that with Blue Apron I remembered how enjoyable cooking was. So for that, I am grateful.

I learned that when I come up with menu plans, I like to look at different recipes, and find the ingredients ahead of time to be creative. That fits our lifestyle. Once in a while we will order a pizza from the little Italian restaurant down the street, or order take out when we want Chinese. Those are our backups for when we don’t feel like cooking.

I always end up going back to HelloFresh - but the prices are rising! I tend to cancel after every box and wait for them to offer me 50% off. They continue to offer the discount… [but they also may be dying as a company…]

Sunbasket was a rescue during Covid, still use occasionally. Good selection and interesting menu/recipes. Great sauces, taught me how to cook better .
