I was nearly crushed to either death or permanent major spinal injury, by a massive falling tree, except that a Rabbi who was nearby, heard the boom, came out to the scene, found me unconscious tied up in the tree debris, and refused other civilian aid to help him get me out of the mess, knowing from what injuries he saw with me (from past experience as an EMT worker many years before) he knew they needed to get a cervical collar on me before I was moved. He made everyone at the scene wait until the real EMT workers got there, as he sat in the tree mess holding me with one arm (so I wouldn’t move) and holding his hand pressed down tightly over the bleeding crack in my head with the hand of his other arm. I had a fleeting bit of consciousness before the EMT folks got there, with the Rabbi saying “Don’t move, I have a hold of you. The EMT crew is on their way and will be here soon.”
I know providence. I’ve experienced it. A few minutes earlier or later and that man might not have been there and ignorant civilians believing they were helping me would have moved me out of the tree mess, likely severing my spine in the neck and possibly not stopped the massive bleeding wound in my head before real EMT people got there.
