Did the Assassin's Rifle Have a Scope On It or Not?
Nikos1121

I'm trying to get a straight answer on this. I've heard two podcasters say that the would-be assassin's gun had an iron site, meaning NO SCOPE.

Yet, there are no official photos anywhere of the actual rifle, like we had with Oswald's.

My grandkids, 10 and 12, are deer hunters. I don't go out with them anymore, but my son does.

It's not easy to get within 150 yards of your prey, but if you do and you have a scope on your rifle, even my grandkids will produce a kill shot 9 out of 10 times, if the target is stationary.

OTOH, with an iron site, i.e. without a scope, a kill shot at 150 yards is closer to 1 out 10, if at that.

I say this, because if the assassin had a scope, Trump by all rights should be dead, and the only explanation would be pure luck or in my opinion divine intervention.

DOES ANYONE KNOW FOR SURE IF THE RIFLE HAD A SCOPE?

PLEASE, DON'T POST GOOGLE SEARCH PHOTOS THAT PURPORT TO BE THE ACTUAL RIFLE, AS SOME PHOTOS OUT THERE DO NOT HAVE A SCOPE ON THEM, BUT ARE NOT LISTED AS THE OFFICIAL RIFLE.

Asking the hunters out there for comments here.

Iron sights at that range are fine if you understand your rifle and ballistics.

For a head shot no but for center mass it’s doable.

DJT turned his head. I’m more impressed with the kid’s self-control. Nerves, breathing, having just been confronted by a cop, people on the ground discovered him....I haven’t heard, but I wonder if he’s a deer hunter. He put s lot of noise aside, and took his shot.

I believe he had an Eotech style red dot.

Mr. GG2 read he had a red dot. No scope. I cannot confirm.

"TO ME... from the audio, it sounded more like a 22 than a 223. But who knows there."

A recorded gunshot sounds nothing like it does in person. That's because loud noises exceed the maximum sound level that can be recorded.

If you watch some YouTube videos of people shooting, you will see what I mean.

Sub 400 feet hitting a target without a scope is not that difficult. Scope makes if beyond stupidly easy but iron sights is not something that requires sniper calibre skill either

“I think what you’re saying is at 100 yards you’d get 10 out of 10 within the size of a softball, and from 150 probably the size of a good-sized cantaloupe?”

That’s about right for a lever action deer rifle we use in the woods. I used to have a bolt action military surplus Swedish Mauser with military open sights. It would have held the group size down to softball size at 150 yards.

I bet trump kind of moving his head at the last second (which likely saved his life) also shook up the shooter. He knew there’d be incoming after the first shot, he missed, and it was spray and pray until they put him down a couple of seconds later.

Personally, I think they should have shot the bad guy before he even had a chance to get a sight picture.

i agree. Although I’ve shot 10 out of ten in the ten ring at 300 yards with iron sights.

But that took training to do it. BTW I was using the 1903 Springfield 30-06 bolt action mfg 1943 by Remington.

Gee, I don’t know about that...
I used a 30-30 Wunchester for years with iron sights and never had a problen hitting a buck at 150 to 175 yards.

I was responding to the other poster and repeated his quote

I shoot Marlin, Winchester, M1A, Grand all iron sites and regularly make hits at 100-300 yards
