Did the Assassin's Rifle Have a Scope On It or Not?
Nikos1121

Posted on 07/15/2024 11:06:57 AM PDT by nikos1121

I'm trying to get a straight answer on this. I've heard two podcasters say that the would-be assassin's gun had an iron site, meaning NO SCOPE.

Yet, there are no official photos anywhere of the actual rifle, like we had with Oswald's.

My grandkids, 10 and 12, are deer hunters. I don't go out with them anymore, but my son does.

It's not easy to get within 150 yards of your prey, but if you do and you have a scope on your rifle, even my grandkids will produce a kill shot 9 out of 10 times, if the target is stationary.

OTOH, with an iron site, i.e. without a scope, a kill shot at 150 yards is closer to 1 out 10, if at that.

I say this, because if the assassin had a scope, Trump by all rights should be dead, and the only explanation would be pure luck or in my opinion divine intervention.

DOES ANYONE KNOW FOR SURE IF THE RIFLE HAD A SCOPE?

PLEASE, DON'T POST GOOGLE SEARCH PHOTOS THAT PURPORT TO BE THE ACTUAL RIFLE, AS SOME PHOTOS OUT THERE DO NOT HAVE A SCOPE ON THEM, BUT ARE NOT LISTED AS THE OFFICIAL RIFLE.

Asking the hunters out there for comments here.

It’s one thing to be in a tree blind and wait, but be on the ground and stalking?

I thank you for your post, as I don’t really know, but you must admit, this guy gets within 150 yards under the noses of our guys?

Agreed overall.. But, if it was a .22, I would likely give it a little bit of right/ left tweak.

And we don’t know. But if using a can and subsonic, that might influence as well.

The local Clairton Sportsmen’s Club shooting range confirmed that Crooks was a member there. Maybe someone should ask a few people there what Crooks practiced with.

I read somewhere that he was upset that he did not make it on the highschool shooting team?

I have been doing some cowboy action shooting over the years and last years was going for extra points shooting a 4 inch plate at 50 and 75 yards with a Winchester 1886, iron sites.

I won...

drones are also gps enable and can remain stationary over a target area.

Some guy on Jessie Waters yesterday said that anyone passing Army basic should have been able to make that shot. I passed Army basic, and doubt I would have done any better than 1 in 10, so I think I agree. With a properly aligned and zeroed scope, easy shot. With iron sites, probably about ten to one against, at least on the first shot. After the first shot he would have to hurry his shots.

Has the FBI, Secret Service, or DHS produced a photo of the weapon system yet? If they have I can’t find one.

If one wanted to be a good shooter and wasn’t naturally, a gun club would be a logical idea.

Except that he hit the target. The target was moving. All things considered, it was a hell of a shot.

The press will do anything they can to call everything an AR. I would not be at all surprised if it were a .22 that looked like an AR.

You're right about the press... gun stupid, biased AND they can't do math. Publishers need to understand there has to be something (like a few brain cells to rub together) on top of mere wordsmithing... Maybe broadening their hiring would help - a little REAL diversity - like diversity of thought? We can dream.

We’ve shot some 5-round 1.25” groups at 400 yards with a scoped AR, bench-rested, using custom-made 5.56 ammo: 77gr Sierra SMK bullets, once-fired LC brass prepped to perfection, CCI SRM BR primers and A2520 powder.
The gun is capable of it, but under stressful conditions, it’d take quite the calm, cool, experienced/practiced shooter to duplicate it.

From that range iron sights would have been sufficient. More than sufficient.

Still-hunting is on the ground, moving in deer country, in places and times, and at a pace, that deer move. People walk through the woods like bulldozers. Sliw down. You can’t be silent...neither are deer. The reason some people have a hard time getting within 150 yards of deer is that they spook them from that distance. Never take more than three steps at a time. Learn to distribute your weight on your feet. Learn the way the wind works...thermals and prevailing...control your scent. Often as not, deer will walk to you, not the other way around. It takes discipline. Personally, I’d rather set up on a stump and watch trails, but still-hunting is quite viable. If you have birds nearly landing on you, or colliding with you, you’re doing it right. 😃

FBI Special Agent in charge Kevin Rojek said was an AR-style chambered in 5.56.

All things considered, it was a hell of a shot.

If he was aiming for the ear, I would agree. But it's more likely he was aiming for the center of the head and based on the size of an average head, in my opinion, that was a lousy shot.

But hey, you have your opinion and I have mine...and it's not worth an argument..... :)

True? Who knows.

Not if you actually use the iron sights. You should be able to turn in 2 inch groups all day long. But that cop surprising him rushed him.
