I was shocked that my pastor said nothing. It is a fairly conservative church in a very liberal, wealthy town full of influential people - many of them having some power to shape public discourse - not that those are necessarily church-goers.
But I expected prayers for peace, for the safety of leaders and candidates, for us as a nation to handle disagreements with reason, fairness, gentleness.
Our parish priest was out of town for a family wedding, but his pinch hitter discussed it, and we prayed for DJT and out nation.
They don’t think they can afford to offend the members who happen to be rich communists. This applies in very “conservative” churches.
I haven’t gone to mass yet, but in my time going to different Protestant/Evangelical services, I always found the prayers to be so insular and only relevant to people inside the church…Growing upCatholic however, I remember praying for “peace in the Middle East” before I knew what the Middle East was! And to this day praying for the unborn, praying for our leaders. This is a sort of mainstay on Sundays…
Didn’t want to offend liberals
I stopped attending churches that focus on politics 10 years ago. So, no mention. I was up half the night, praying. I do not need a church or a man to tell me to pray.
For that matter, what exactly did the enemedia all say? https://rumble.com/v56vd39-dr.-simone-gold-reveals-major-media-blackout-of-attempted-assassination-of-.html
This observation by Dr. Simone Gold who as at the center of Times Square is quite revealing.... I don’t think I saw a time on any of the monitors but she said at the beginning that she had just heard the news....
Catholic. Priest talked about political violence and extolled the fact that Democrats & Republicans denounced the assassination attempt but never mentioned President Trump by name.
We prayed as a congregation concerning the rancor that leads to such a thing. We use bidding prayer format, so President Trump was mentioned in the bid.
Our lead Paster was off but the sub mentioned the assassination attempt,
but not strong enough for me.
Don’t know yet: we go to Mass at 1:00 p.m. Eastern. I find that our Spanish-speaking congregation is pretty tuned out on American politics, so we’ll see. The Nicaraguan exile priest talks about current events sometimes, though.
Is church to worship God or discuss politics?
Non-denominational means they accept money from anyone.
If my pastor had said nothing, I’d change pastors.
What happened yesterday was evil. And, if those who are charged with shepherding the flock, in your church, don’t address that evil, then you need to find a new church! That’s not difficult calculus.
We got one remark in passing about “how divisive our country has become”, but that could apply any week for the last few decades. No specific mention of Trump, no special prayer, nothing.
Yes.
Our pastor almost always reminds us to pray for our political representatives and the people that advise them. And today to pray for families of victims as well as for Trump.
Agree
Did your church take PPP money...?
If so, nuff said.
