RNC’s New Abortion Stance Betrays GOP’s Founding, Pro-Life Activist Says
the Daily Signal ^ | July 10, 2024 | Elizabeth Troutman Mitchell

The Republican National Committee’s 2024 stance on abortion is the worst platform plank he’s ever seen, pro-life advocate Tom McClusky said Wednesday at the National Conservatism Conference in Washington.

McClusky, principal at public affairs firm Greenlight Strategies LLC, said that this week was a dark one for the pro-life movement in a panel discussion, “Beyond Dobbs.” That’s a reference to Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the June 2022 Supreme Court abortion decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.

The RNC’s 2024 platform betrays the pro-life founders of the Republican Party, he said.

“If the Republican Party weakens, I’m standing on the shoulders of people who fought for decades to make the Republican Party pro-life,” McClusky said.

The RNC’s Platform Committee adopted former President Donald Trump’s GOP platform, the Trump campaign announced on Monday, including new language on abortion and on protection of the unborn.

That new platform’s abortion language is a significant departure from the party’s life messaging in 2016, which was largely replicated in 2020, since it no longer calls for federal protections for unborn babies and instead suggests that the issue is up to the states. The 2016 platform included the word “abortion” 35 times, while the 2024 platform merely includes abortion once.

“It appears that there is little courage or appetite among our national leaders to try to protect unborn Americans with new federal laws,” said Katy Talento, a former policy adviser for President Donald Trump and CEO at AllBetter Health, a firm that helps employers navigate health plan benefits.

Abortion is not just a state issue, as the RNC platform suggests, McClusky said, because the federal government is not neutral on it. More than $1 billion a year goes to the abortion industry nationally and internationally to help promote, subsidize, and perform abortions, he said.

The Biden administration “is not just pro-abortion,” McClusky said. “It lives and breathes abortion. It is their religion. They want to take out us. They want to take out our children. So, there is a federal role right there.”

“States can fight against the abortion drug, but the abortion drug is promoted by the United States Postal Service—that is under federal jurisdiction,” he added. “That is why the federal government needs to get involved.”

Politicians should read the Food and Drug Administration label on the abortion pill before advocating for it being available on demand, Talento said.

“The next woman bleeding out in a fetal position could be their daughter or granddaughter,” she said.

“It’s time to take seriously the dangerous risks of this powerful, toxic chemical,” Talento added, asserting that 1 in 20 women end up in a hospital emergency room after taking the abortion pill.

The Biden administration has transformed “every agency into Planned Parenthood,” she said, adding that a second Trump administration could reverse President Joe Biden’s radically pro-abortion agency guidelines, she said.

“Those will all have to be reversed,” Talento said, “and there’s simply no avoiding it.”

Correction: This article has been edited to remove a reference to Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., supporting mifepristone. Rubio opposes the abortion pill.

Point being some things other than roe need the federal government to get involved when it comes to abortion.

Get ready. More of this to come. It might not be much longer until the GOP is just as much for imprisoning pro-lifers , as the FBI has been now.

Do we want to win elections or not?

Republicans are useless if they are not in office, then we will get nothing done.

This is one issue we need to back off on.

Win the battles we can.

Political expediency at the cost of innocent human lives? I would hate to be the one to face my Maker and try and justify that to Him. Do what you think is right, but count me out in offering these brutal and heartless human sacrifices.

Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear.

But your iniquities have separated you from your GOD; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.

For your hands are stained with blood, your fingers with guilt. (Isaiah 59:1-3)

Stop beating a dead horse the Supreme Court has said the federal government doesn’t have the power to regulate abortion it is a tenth amendment states right issue. They will rightfully smack down any federal law that passes. It will take an amendment at this point good luck with that it’s a losing subject as 60%+ support at least first term abortions. You need 3/4 of the state’s to pass an amendment there are not 3/4 that would pass such a law either way.

This is just unfathomable. President Trump made great progress by appointing three Supreme Court justices which resulted in the overturn of Roe v. Wade.

So what do they do next? They abandoned the abortion platform and walk away from millions of their core constituents.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sure we do. (I say sarcastically) That’s why we keep electing RINO’s who screw conservatives over again and again. And just when Trump makes great progress with the Dobbs decision.....
He abandons it.
As soon as you start with the religious books you immediately lose half of the audience. Fire and brimstone doesn’t work on people who don’t believe in it to begin with that’s just a fact. This needs to be framed as a states right issue and not at the national level because the Supreme Court will strike down any federal law that passes. It’s not worth losing the much needed moderates with religious zealotry. Fact is the GOP cannot win the White House without 5 to 10% of the moderates on their side. Making enemies needlessly of moderate women when the fight should be at the state level is just dumb. Politics is warfare and no one wins by being the most principled combatant. Remember also a LOT of fiscal conservatives and America first Nationalists are pro-choice and no where near moral issue right wingers.
Trump is a winner by definition he fights battles he can win. He is right this is a states right issue period.full.stop. Move on and get the man back in office so he can close our borders and get our fiscal ship in order. He needs at least 5-10% of moderates to vote for him and half of those are moderate women.
You nailed it. Come November, one party is going to win. If the Democrats win, there will be many, many more babies killed. These purity tests are for the birds. From now till November, the most import job is to win votes for President Donald Trump.
Pro-life people like myself have only one choice. We don't have the luxury of bickering over hypotheticals.
He is right this is a states right issue period.full.stop.
States Rights Issue? Bull Cheese. 1 of 8 voters believe abortion is the most prominent issue facing America. Over half believe abortion is in the top 5 problems we face.
This was, is, and will always be a national issue. Trump and his daughter had no business running away from this problem.
States Rights? May I remind you that southern states considered slavery a 10th Amendment issue too. They were wrong. We had a little war that killed over a quarter of a million Americans over that issue. And those who use the States Rights issue regarding abortion are just as wrong.
Full Stop right back at ya.
Abortion is a state issue. It doesn’t belong on the federal policy platform.
You didn’t read the article, did ya?
Our Federal policy spends over a Billion Dollars annually to promote abortion. How dare Trump and his RNC buddies ignore that?
I have the luxury of living in Texas. A very pro-life state. But what of my hard earned dollars going to FedGov to promote abortion?
Abortion was, is, and will always be a nation issue.
The Supreme Court clearly said this is a state’s rights issue.They will strike down any federal law that passes either way for or against. If either side thinks they can get an amendment passed to over rule the Supreme Court that’s great get 3/4 on board and do it. Slavery did take an amendment btw. Trump needs 10% of the middle at least. There is not 50% GOP in this country and the Electoral college is such that he needs to carry some purple states and all of the red ones. Those purple EC delegates are attached too moderate women and men you need both to put him back in the WH that’s just facts. Save all the right wing moral stuff for the state level where in the red states it might pass. Kansas shows that’s not certain and Florida has a ballot measure as well I expect that will pass too. Face it a lot of people want the option of 15 wks under more than 60% when asked.
Texas will be purple this November why? Because the far right keeps poking suburban young women and their mothers. I know people who would normally vote straight ticket red who are not in November because of this single issue. I work with students a lot and I can assure you I haven’t met a single 20-30 year old woman who is not for 15 wks at the least. Most are furious old white men are telling them what to do with their bodies. Their boyfriends also want choices. This is a losing issue for the GOP. I’ll go on record Texas is purple this November due to this issue driving droves of genz and genx women to the polls who would have sat at home nothing stirs the Hornets nest more than this. So feel free to be a puritan and lose big time in November. Trump is a realist he knows he need badly those same young women and men in his camp. Remember gene ,geny and genz now outnumber boomers more than two to one, when not if they show up angry at the polls they swamp boomers. Trump knows this he needs to carry a good chunk of the 20 to 40 crowd especially in purple states like Michigan, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. That’s just ground truth.
>> This is one issue we need to back off on.
Not really, but moving forward with Life doesn’t necessitate submission by the self-described barefooted handmaidens whimpering at the throne of the patriarchy. Consider the young women that marched to the Kansas polls in 2022 that effectively turned a Red state Blue.
The vacuous, spineless GOP has no founding principles on abortion other than “my elders said it was wrong”. And primarily for this reason, the Rats commandeered the psyche of young women training them to indulge in the sacrificial ritual of abortion. And what does the GOP do in the meantime? Debate whether or not the marginal but nonetheless vital, God loving rape baby deserves life. Such arguments are perfectly complex giving the feckless GOP an effectively meaningless political stance that serves no one.
Instead of ...
- how many babies must be sacrificed in order for the GOP to regain control?
- how many attempted abortions will survive when the Rats take control?
The relevant questions should concern...
- how are the self-perceived handmaidens liberated?
- which social safeguards address the concerns of young women in general
There’s no national messaging regarding the virtues of young families. The time is now to make young families great again. And this is how the perceived necessity of abortion is mitigated.
An adjunct to the aforementioned concerns the necessity of demanding young adult males to behave like men. I’m not talking about family discussions with grandpa (which are of great value), but instead unambiguous national messaging where responsibility and providing is an essential quality to the furtherance of family, community, and country. The Rats are denying this evolutionary, biological message to young men. We all know this to be true, and we all know the Rat way must come to an end immediately.
