Wind energy is on a tear and has beaten coal for two months straight: Wind has now generated 28% more electricity than coal

Wind is quietly blowing away coal, when it comes to supplying electricity in the US.

In April, wind power generated more electricity than coal for the second month in a row, according to the latest available data from the Energy Information Administration. Wind briefly surpassed coal once before in April last year, but this time it’s by a much larger margin and for two consecutive months.

Renewable energy production has been ticking up for years but only recently have fuels like wind and solar approached the ballpark of fossil fuels and nuclear power. Last year renewables made up 21% of electricity generation in the US.

However, tech companies’ insatiable need for fuel to power their AI projects and the data centers that support them could mean that utility companies will have to lean more heavily on natural gas, coal and nuclear than would have otherwise. That’s one reason investors like Warren Buffett are investing in energy companies. Tech companies themselves are getting into the energy business and are buying directly from power plants, generally wreaking havoc on the energy grid.

Natural gas remains the main fuel source for electricity generation in the US by a long shot.

Ask the Scotts about whether the wind ever stop blowing on the North Sea

I have to believe that we were all better off when were running 100% conventional sources, with the exception of a few “niche” uses for wind & solar that we didn’t have to depend on 100%.

Coal and nuclear power plants can’t be idled.

Gas fired combustion turbines can be idled during which they pollute more than when running at full speed.

\/

probably cuz 28% more coal powered generating plants were closed down by unelected unconstitutional agency wonks.

I’ve been saying that for years. There is no way that taking energy from the earths wind currents can happen without having an eventual effect on the earths climate patterns.

Who would a thunk it.

Government shutter coal plants and makes it nearly impossible to produce a single joule with coal.

Government pumps in hundreds of billions of dollars in direct tax dollars, subsidies, and forced mandates that energy producers MUST use windmills.

Nice spin on this

How to lie with statistics 101:
The reason is the Biden and Obama administration has put restictive standards on coal plants so there shutting the older one while doing everything to encourage wind mills.
Look into it and don’t believe the headlines.

Coal keeps working whether too hot or too cold or too windy or not windy enough - and it doesn’t kill birds.

Just like solar is lighting more lamps now than whale oil.

I don’t know about the earth’s rotation, but I do know that when you take energy out of a system like a wind stream, you reduce the energy in the wind. How in the world is that anything other than systemic climate change?

Bingo.

The killing of American power from coal is what the usage change shows, not any big suitability of wind turbines.
