A Coast Guard member's TikTok shows us how much good McDonald's food we're missing out on by not being in Guantanamo Bay.
McDonald’s is known for its localized menus in different places around the world. The food you get at a Micky D’s in Europe or Asia will not be the same as the food you can pick from here in the United States. That’s super neat, and it turns out the best McDonald’s in the world very well may be in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Yes, that Guantanamo Bay.
Imagine pulling up to the U.S. prison McDonald’s in your Humvee and ordering some fries. Wild stuff. This story was brought to my attention by TikToker and U.S. Coast Guard member “Sarah Dogs.” She’s stationed at Gitmo and decided to give the food a try while sitting in her car. (That’s why this is a car story, I don’t want to hear any complaining.) Anyway, Ms. Dogs starts out by saying there’s a rumor this McDonald’s is the best, so she wanted to try it out.

She ordered a spicy chicken sandwich, french fries and… wings. Yes, the McDonald’s in Guantanamo Bay sells wings. I love that so much. The wings are packaged in a 20-piece McNugget box, which is sort of strange, but no one cares. She opened the box up and was greeted with about half a dozen truly legit-looking wings. Folks, they really do not look bad at all. The Tiktoker said they “smell really fire,” and I’m inclined to believe her. Sarah goes on to rate them a 10 out of 10 while making me very hungry.
She also samples the sandwich and fries, both of which she says are “so much better than they are in the United States.” That’s high praise considering how good McDonald’s sandwiches are.
Do they use beef tallow for the French fries?
If not, it can’t be the best McDonald’s in the world
I wonder what the taxpayer bill is to support the restaurant location...
Well, I don’t know but I’d guess McDonald’s pays the government rent to be there.
When I was stationed in England in the 1970s there were no fast-food places on base and none in the surrounding villages either. There was a McDonald’s that we passed by in London once, but the bus wouldn’t stop.
And there was a place in Bury St. Edmunds (~15-20 miles) called “Wimpys” that served American style hamburgers. By American hamburger standards, they weren’t very good, but it’s all we had off base.
Wow, that's an overstatement.
PS I went to London Central HS (school for American military dependents) in the 60's. Ate a Wimpy's half of once.
Half of once? You ate a few bites and couldn't take it anymore? I'd believe that; they weren't very good.
The first time my wife and I ate there we noticed all of the Blokes (British) staring at us. We decided it was because we were eating our hamburgers with our hands while the Blokes were using knives and forks, as usual.
Yes I was hoping that sarcasm would be evident. They were awful. I don't know what they used for meat but it tasted offal :) If I recall the burgers at Wimpy's were sliced out of a can.
I can see you getting the look not using knife and fork LOL.
I don’t see where it says why it’s cursed.
The gal does the video reminds me of my college sweetheart, whose father died less than a month after his brain cancer diagnosis. She quit school, joined the Army, and became a truck driver.
She liked driving a deuce and a half in Germany.
Married at truck driver when she got out, sadly I’ve long since lost touch with her.
I’ve raided that drive thru many times when I was stationed there.
Cute gal. I could not hear what she said.
I’ve been halfway around the world while serving in the Navy. All McDonald’s taste different. The KFC in England tasted horrible.
By the 90s, there were Burger Kings and Popeyes at every USAFE base in Europe.
I always went to the Bird-in-Hand and/or the Smokehouse outside of RAF Midenhall.
The best McDonalds I ever had, was in San Jose Costa Rica. Looked just like the ads and was delicious.
You worry about trivial nonsense. All of your tax $$ are spent on unshot Black Babies in Chicago. None ever make it to the US Naval Base at Guantanamo Where there is a Navy Exchange Mall
That's like describing the best smelling outhouse... Best McDonald's food? I'll grab a GOODY-GOODY hamburger, thank you...
My wife says they were "beef burgers" and yes, they were pretty bad.
I went back to RAF Lakenheath in 1994 to take my daughter to where she was born, and they did indeed have a Burger King. I don’t remember a Popeye’s though. In the mid-70s, there was nothing like that.
The funny thing about all beef is they don't tell you which part of the cow is used.
Just for grins I found the Wimpy’s website so I guess they’re still around. The location that I knew in Bury St. Edmunds is no longer there though but there appears to be numerous locations in the UK. The burgers in the pictures look pretty good except the meat doesn’t look so good.
