Either you like it...or you don't.

I'm referring to SPAM!

Me, when I'm in the local Grocery Outlet, I'll pick up a couple cans of it every now and then. No, I don't eat it regularly (who does?) but being it has a 2-3 years shelf life, why not?

Every now and then, I get an urge for a SPAM sandwich and/or some SPAM and eggs for breakfast. Yes, it's a bit on the salty side but boiling it takes a lot of the salt/sodium out of it.

Thoughts?????

The slimy feel is from the congelled fat. Fry it and it is much better.

Sure, we like ham best but Spam is quick and it’s shelf stable. We don’t have it often but I’ll fry some with eggs and toast for breakfast or make a soft dough and fill it with sliced spam and cheese. There are lots of recipes on the SPAM site.

“”””””Great survival food though. Keeps forever too.”””””

I just took a quick look and saw that I’m down to about 100 cans, I have largely switched to canned chicken for food stocks.

For me, fried spam with mustard, melted American cheese, and garden fresh tomatoes makes a good sandwich.

I also have cans of Portuguese Sausage Spam and Chorizo Spam that you can add to your list of variations.

When I was a kid we would slice it wafer thin with a cheese slicer and fry it it up and make fried spam sammiches.😏

Same here - keep some around for occasional use.
The regular tastes salty to me too so I get the low-sodium variant.

Ham and eggs was the best C-ration.

I had a relative (my dad’s cousin) that did an interview for a college kid years ago about his time in WW2. He was a replacement who first saw combat at the Battle of the Bulge.

When he first go there, some of the other guys were happy to give him any C-rations with pork in it, and he loved them.

Once he got up to where the fighting was he figured out why. The pigs were eating the dead Germans on the sides of the roads. IIRC he still liked the ones with pork in them.

Hormel Spam is for rich elitist types. Armor Treet is for the working class. It’s less expensive.

The cheap copies of spam don’t come close to the real thing, all of the, are off putting, they are eatable but one quickly gives up on them usually.

They now produce a lower sodium variety, not so salty.
