Comet observers are all hoping for big things from comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS) in autumn 2024.
When it was discovered, it was hailed as a potential ‘comet of the century’ and calculations suggested it might become as bright as mag. -4!
It’s now thought that at best A3 will reach mag. +0.4, a lot fainter but still much brighter than the last really bright comet, C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE), which delighted sky-watchers in summer 2020.

Omen II had William Holden-I know I’ve seen it-I just don’t remember it.
I don’t know if you have streaming tv- The First Omen gets good reviews, it’s set differently, Nell Tiger Free is the lead actress. I’ve been meaning to watch it on Hulu (free thru the Disney channel).
It’s called a “ horror prequel”.
Hale Bopp was a killer.
I’ve seen them several times - as I learned more about the Bible, I would notice things that are out of place.
Even as Damien reads, ostensibly from Revelation, he’s going the wrong way at some point (LOL).
They needed somebody like me on set for continuity. I would have caught the Bugenhagen error right off.
There’s a lot in the 2nd one - the scene about famine is one I quote here several times:
Omen II
“Our profitable future, gentlemen ... is also in famine”

Not sure how they’re gonna make money off gravity, though
Waterfalls, hydroelectric dams maybe LOL
Asteroid impact in 4 months?! Worse than Apophis, NASA is powerless to stop these threats! 18 min

Yep. I was in Savannah, GA and so we probably had a better view if you are further north. One night, my Astronomy Club had a viewing at Ft. Pulaski, which is/was very dark back then, and had a GREAT Southern horizon. We expected a few hundred to show up, but, somehow the local news got hold of the story and we had 4000 people show up.
They were all pretty relaxed about the whole thing until the news truck showed up and turned on a spotlight. They were lucky to get out alive. But, the year before, it was overhead and I could see it easily in my front yard, even with the street light going.
If you had seen Comet West in 1975, you would have found Hale-Bopp just a little less impressive (as impressive as it was).
I’m definitely going to watch it.
Halley was a disappointment to me. Hale-Bopp and Hyakutake made up for it.
I’m old enough that, I remember looking out our front window one morning before dawn and seeing Ikeya-Seki. To this day, it’s been the brightest comet I have seen. I was 9-10 years old.
I use an app on my cell phone to see where the stars and planets are and there are a lot of comets whooshing thru our solar system ALL the time. It is a shooting gallery out there and we are a target!
I was just too young to see that one in 1965. From descriptions I have read, it was a lot like Comet West in 1974/5
That was a joke about the Heavens Gate people.
