Pregnant woman murdered after repeatedly asking police for help

A pregnant woman who was allegedly beaten to death by her abusive ex-boyfriend is being mourned by friends and family, and questions are being raised as to how the crime was allowed to happen in the first place.

Nineteen-year-old Brooke Devinney was allegedly murdered by 23-year-old Devon Blair, who was spotted fleeing the scene by officers. He managed to evade capture at first but was eventually caught a few hours later.

Disturbingly, local media reported that just days before her murder, Devinney had asked police for help, and had previously filed a report on him in December after he threatened to kill her. Blair had allegedly stabbed Devinney in the past, put a knife to her throat, and said he would bash her head in. Altogether, there were over a dozen calls to police from September until Devinney’s death.

“Before today’s incident, he had two warrants out for his arrest for domestic violence that did involve Miss Devinney,” Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert told ABC 6. “He has proven to be a very dangerous individual who we unfortunately weren’t able to get off the street before he took somebody’s life.”

In December, the Columbus Dispatch reported that Devinney was trying to leave for an appointment when Blair began threatening her. He had her take off her clothes, stripping her naked in the middle of the street, at which point she ran into the garage in an attempt to escape. Blair allegedly punched her and dragged her by her hair inside the house, where he continued hitting her. He then put the knife to her throat while he held her in a chokehold, stabbed her in the stomach, and said he would kill her. When police arrived, he punched and bit the officers.

Blair was eventually arrested relating to that incident, but a judge released him on a $10,000 recognizance bond — which meant he didn’t have to pay — along with an electronic ankle monitor despite his guilty pleas to the assault of a police officer and felony domestic violence. He was ordered to stay away from Devinney as well. “You can’t afford it, dude,” Judge Michael Holbrook said. “That was just cold-blooded making her take off her stuff in the middle of the street. Cold-blooded. Not cool. … If you violate that at all, I’ll throw you in until we’re done. I’m taking a chance, don’t disappoint me.”

Blair’s recognizance bond was revoked on May 31st and a warrant was issued for his arrest, which never happened. When Devinney was beaten to death, Blair was wearing the ankle monitor, which calls into question why police could not find him in the time between Devinney’s plea for help on Thursday and her murder on Sunday.

In a court appearance after the murder, Blair let loose a string of expletives and demanded to be released on bail. “Now shut the f––– up and give me a f–––––– bond. Say okay, grant it, get me the f––– out of here,” he said, at which point his attorney told him to be quiet; Blair responded, “Shut the f––– up. Should have never brought me down here. I didn’t wanna come. You forced me down here.”

Devinney was 14 weeks pregnant when she died, and her preborn child died just four minutes after Devinney died, according to prosecutors. A GoFundMe page set up for her family indicated she was carrying a boy. During a celebration of her life this week, Devinney’s mother gave an emotional statement.

“He took our baby from us,” she said through tears, and added, “The system (has) to stop letting these repeat offenders out because the system can’t fight for these women. What do they have? Who’s gonna be there for them? They should know that we should not have to go through this. We should not be here.”

A lot of white women (especially younger ones) have now been conditioned that they are expected to entertain the idea of having relationships with other races, predominantly American blacks....combine that with black men seeking out white females, because lets face it, black women can be a scary bunch and white women are easier for a black man to intimidate and control, this is a fairly common occurrence.

I know how all that sounds but I’m just making observations on what I’ve read and seen on a 1st hand basis.

Ask the frickin' Judge who let him go, why this guy was back out on the street to kill her. The cops did their job. The court let him off, and has blood on his hands. The family needs to take it up with the Judge, and hold him accountable.

Defund the police! Bring in Social Workers!

Oh, and how could police allow this to happen!

"One has to ask why would police bother?"

The guy was arrested for assaulting her previously, as well as a cop. The Judge in that matter let him out with an ankle bracelet on no cash bail. This family needs to go after that Judge. The cops did their job when they arrested him the last time. The Judge is guilty of assisting that animal to kill that pregnant girl.

All the black man/white woman couples I see in TV commercials (which is about 85% of them), are totally happy, stable, and financially secure.

YEAH.. I thought the very same thing.

Just goes to show you "HOW MUCH SMOKE THEY"LL BLOW UP THE PUBLIC'S A$$ JUST TO TRY AND SELL SOMETHING" /s

Only thing that stops an animal like this is being put in a cage...ot is now open season on White women by brown people
...I hope the judge(s) are happy.....now they have blood on their hands but will never be held accountable......and that’s a damn shame.

“...but a judge released him on a $10,000 recognizance bond”

I don’t care about the race of the murderer or his victim. I do care that a judge saw fit to release the murderer. I was under the impression that domestic abuse cases involving using a weapon did not merit a recognizance bond especially if any sort of restraining order was involved. The logic being the accused has shown he or she is a danger to the life of at least one person.

The judge should be named and shamed.

I have a close friend who was stalked by a wacko ex girlfriend for over a year. Vandalized his car several times, and even broke into his house. Retraining orders against her were useless, and in the end, it didn’t end well for either of them.

"I think these judges that let violent people out (without any bond, too) are doing a great disservice to our communities. Gotta get rid of them."

When Judges let these animals right back out on the street, and they soon injure someone again, or commit murder, the Judge should be arrested, charged, and tried with the same crimes as the perp, and get the same sentence. They gave the killer the opportunity, along with aiding and abetting the killer with the ability to commit another violent offense soon after being released.

This is a regular occurrence. Liberal D.A.'s, Judges, Attorney Generals are all guilty of this crime.

Did no one suggest to her to get a firearm and learn how to use it?

I know several girls like this.

The weird thing among them is, I find they make the most racist comments and negative generalizations that others would not be allowed to get away with. Its as if they feel they have "earned the right" while others have not, and as you say, they have proven to society how "open-minded" they are in their relationships.

One woman at work whose white nephew was in a majority black school, was telling us how she urged her sister to get her white kid out of that school lest he be a target of "violent black kids." Yet she herself only dated black guys.

I found the cognitive dissonance very strange.

“she urged her sister to get her white kid out of that school lest he be a target of “violent black kids.” Yet she herself only dated black guys”

Because dating black men has given her an insight to their violent culture that msny whites are ignorant of.....or are shamed into turning a blind eye to it by the liberal media or be called racist.

It’s really amazing how one word can literally control millions of people.....what’s also amazing is how 13% of the population can cause so much chaos and mayhem.

Fathers, teach your daughters to shoot and buy them a gun if they can’t afford one because an order of protection is just a piece of paper.

Is it?

Judge Michael Holbrook - Republican

Who is apparently ok with putting criminals who assault three people, two of them police officers out with no bail.

I would say this person should not be on the bench to let more violent people out but you make up your own minds.

Eight posts before someone sees the real problem.

Congratulations.

The problems is not the criminals, we have always had those.

The problem is not the police. They did their job and arrested him.

The problem is the judge who let him out.

Seems to be the case.

Everyone acted in character in this entire drama except the judge. The victim acted like a victim, the criminal acted like a criminal, the police acted properly and stopped the criminal act and arrested him. The judge is the only person who did not play their part. The judge was suppose to keep him in jail. But he decided that day that a triple assault with a deadly weapon was just a bit of poorly thought out mischief. Some youthful high spirits.

And now we have two dead bodies.

This sounds harsh but my give a damn meter is busted. Young women are more liberal and invite this kind of problem on themselves.

My ethnicity is mixed so here's my two cents worth, liberal women are morons for dating guys from the ghetto.

If they are dating Ben Carson or Herman Cain, no problem at all with that.

I understand that young, liberal women are "attracted" to masculine men from the "hood".

But it's your risk. Don't expect us to do anything about it.

It's like walking into one of the favelas in Rio de Janerio, Brazil and something bad happens to you.

Not our problem. None of our business.

Maybe it's time that our society needs to expect women (especially "woke" ladies) to do better. Or at the least, take the responsibility for the consequences to their actions.
