And? This isn’t a hallmark movie, it’s not a Disney film, it’s life. And it’s rough, it can be a real SOB, but you soldier on, you hone your skills, you hustle, you work another job, you WORK to get the life you want.
Merely showing up should not cut it.
The little snowflakes want to work where there is the most competition, tough &$#@. Their choice. For me like many others we paid our dues.
Left the house at 18 to prove that I was a competent man who would work to provide for himself. 890/Month in the Military, ate Top Ramen and eggs off a hot plate in my hotel room while doing TDY. Saved every dime I could. Learned everything I could, focused on a career path that needed lots of people and skilled-up and focused.

When people bitch and moan about “happily”, or struggle, or “I had to help my little one get a place in New York”… I just shake my head.

No one deserves a job, no one deserves a living wage, no one deserves a roof over their head, no one deserves to have food and housing provided for them, and no one deserves their own place. All of that is a wish, a want, a desire, and people need to struggle to feel the pride that occurs when you reach your desires and goals. No other feeling like it.

Off soap box…

Los Angeles: $26.81 -

After taxes that’s about 15 bucks an hour.

This is a joke...

sorry, didn’t read the whole thing, the chosen excerpt wasn’t clear either

“Hourly wage needed to cover basic costs: $35.98”

that makes more sense

When I was starting out, I knew what being an adult meant and was preparing myself for it.

I wasn't the best high school student but was good enough to get into the state university. Once there, I got a degree in computer science and was hired by a top company where I spent my entire career advancing my potential.

I know it's harder on the kids today, but some of that is on them for not "growing up," some of it is on their parents for not encouraging them to persevere to succeed, some of it is on the schools that deemphasized the basic skills to make room for social indoctrination, some of it is on the businesses that off-shored work to cheaper labor pools and then imported cheap labor here that displaced American workers, and some of it is on the politicians who pandered to the fringes for power and votes.

Explain this then, Honolulu
https://www.staradvertiser.com/2021/08/13/hawaii-news/honolulus-population-tops-1-million/

Now Seattle
https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/seattlecitywashington/PST045222

Honolulu has more people than Seattle.

I hate both cities, but my comment still is you mainland people ignore Hawaii and Alaska. I like both states.
I dislike the ignorance of the fact that they are US states.

I wonder if Biden has shipped any illegal aliens to Hawaii? He should!

Yes, times are a bit different today. The influx of illegal aliens is probably the most detrimental to our youth and people newly entering the workforce. We did not have that competition or problem back in the 70s. And since these illegals will work for less, employers will abuse that, and don’t hire our youth.

>>the minimum wage is necessary because there are people who will otherwise make it $0.00

And who is going to agree to work for $0.00? You seem fuzzy on the concept of a free market. Employers don’t get to unilaterally determine wages; it’s still a negotiation.

It’s a negotiation if there is fair competition, if the employee is knowledgeable enough and aware enough to know that it is negotiation.

It might cost $50/’date’ to cast his ‘line’ into the ‘water’, but Simp might reel in a ‘fish’ that could add over $1 million to his life.

That $1 million he 'might' get is usually what he loses in the eventual divorce from the gold-digger. Watch some of the on-the-street interviews of the expectations of all these 'ladies.' They all think they're 10s, want a man over 6'2", making high 6 or 7 figure incomes, eat dinner out, no cooking, cleaning, blah, blah.....and THEN they openly brag about cheating him and getting what he 'owes' her just for being there for the sex - when she wants it from him and not some other loser she's got hooked up on the side.

Just a crude estimate

$5756.80 a month gross.
$69,081.60 annual gross.
Minus
California Income tax at .093
$6424.58
Minus Federal Tax at .22
$15,197.95
Minus SS and Medicare .0765
$5284.74

Net Conservatively
$69,081.60 Income
$26,907.27 Taxes
______________
$42,174.33 in San Francisco
Then rent basic $1000 to $3000 depends on location
So say $3000 monthly equals $36,000 a year

So you work 7 months before you pay yourself.

Balance a year for utilities, insurance, transportation, medical and oh yes, Food
$6174.33

I could be off on figures but don’t believe the initial rate of $35.98 an hour will be enough. IMHO?

I don’t recall the unemployment rate ever being 0%, and if I did, I’d think DOL was lying.

Do employers actually do this?

I’m glad I got out of the rental business.

Minimum wage was and is a communist attempt at controlling commerce. Instead, it outlaws any labor not worth the minimum wage.

We can agree on that. Was seeking to keep things more simplistic.

“”On the other hand, what else could those numbers possibly mean?””

You’re right but I was certainly scratching my head looking for some other explanation...
